My father died yesterday. What should I read to cope and/or distract myself.

Don't cope or distract yourself anon, just log off the internet, stop looking for solace from anonymous retards, and read the Book of Common Prayer or whatever book allows you to confront the death of your father head-on and accept the process of mourning.

Yeah reading isn't gonna work trust me
You need something a lot more stimulating
There's obviously drinking and drugs or a gambling addiction or prostitutes but that's so passe
Might I recommend immersing yourself in the mystifying soviet punk world of Tetris
>>
My dad died like 6 years ago and his ashes are still in the plastic bag inside the tote bag the funeral home/crematorium gave me. He was a plastic bag kind of guy, though.

You should be writing about your father. What kind of man he was. What he did and left behind. You impression of him.
>>
That sort of thing is hard. My father died last year. Just have to take the time. But as anon mentioned before. It is better to confront it than just distract yourself.
>>
Sorry for your loss OP but don't distract yourself or find a coping mechanism. You gotta face this head on, and let those feelings come and go. Mourn his death, celebrate his life, express what your heart wants to hear.
Take care of yourself and the ones close to him and you.

I made the mistake of coming here the day my sister passed away, asking for ways to cope too and it didn't pan out well. Took me 3+ years to get myself out of the rut. Don't make the same mistake I did.

I have lost many of my close ones and I have found that the humour and "philosophy" of Terry Prattchet on this topic has been beneficial. I dont find it as distracting just expanding your point of view on the broader concept fo death that everyone ponders at some point.

Also idk if you knew or only happened to joked about this but Tetris has been proven to be useful for getting over traumatic events and PTSD.

If you've read something in the past that's been helpful it will often be helpful to you again.

My father passed suddenly just about four years ago. I was in shock for a few days and can't remember if I read anything or even felt like reading. It took over a year to feel a sense of normalcy again.
