Because he has inherited the (partially) silly tradition of the ancients, who had a kind of effeminite obsession with fame.In a way, the obsession with fame is feminine, but there is a logic to it. For the ancients in particular, they had to gain some sort of reputation in order to secure a baseline social standing. Still, I find their obsession with fame ridiculous.
