Most people reading have either been reading their entire lives and have developed higher standards or newcomers who have started reading to better themselves and escape from the infinite sea of slop and thus gravitate todards high brow lit
Slop literature is almost completely dominated by women and panders to women's taste, whereas those other mediums have a sizable space that caters to males
/ic/ You pretty much have to go to museums and galleries to enjoy fine visual art in person. Books and posters and jpegs don't cut it. And even if you're in a metro area with a nice art museum, the rest of /ic/ is somewhere else/tv/ film and tv are overwhelmingly slop and people actually like talking about the slop/mu/ has both of the issues of /ic/ and /tv/ going on at once. The only good news is that you can get pretty good recordings of music, and pretty hi fidelity playback is cheap anymore. Support your local orkester no matter how bad it is, though/co/ haahahahahhSo /lit/ has the advantage that the primary medium for literature is books, and books are kind of cheap if you don't go crazy, a lot of the best ones are in the public domain already, and you can read them in podunk, and for some reason the people that slurp up the slop aren't as big on yapping about it online, partly because a lot of the slop is basically porn for women.
