Why is it /ic/, /mu/ and /tv/ all talk mostly about slop, whereas /lit/ is fixated on high art?
>>
>>24955276
because /lit/ is a flytrap for all the really insufferable intellectualism-larpers.
>>
/lit/ is full of people who desperately want to be taken seriously.
>>
Because /lit/ is better and any other answer is genrefag cope.
>>
>>24955276
/Lit/ doesn't talk. Its retarded noise and shitflinging.
Very few effort posters.
>>
>>24955276
Because all the original furry porn is in Greek or other extinct languages
>>
>>24955301
No, that would be /sci/

>>24955276
Serious answer: it's probably the format. You can take in visual art and music much more quickly than the written word.
>>
>>24955346
So with less effort
>>
Most people reading have either been reading their entire lives and have developed higher standards or newcomers who have started reading to better themselves and escape from the infinite sea of slop and thus gravitate todards high brow lit
>>
Slop literature is almost completely dominated by women and panders to women's taste, whereas those other mediums have a sizable space that caters to males
>>
/ic/ You pretty much have to go to museums and galleries to enjoy fine visual art in person. Books and posters and jpegs don't cut it. And even if you're in a metro area with a nice art museum, the rest of /ic/ is somewhere else

/tv/ film and tv are overwhelmingly slop and people actually like talking about the slop

/mu/ has both of the issues of /ic/ and /tv/ going on at once. The only good news is that you can get pretty good recordings of music, and pretty hi fidelity playback is cheap anymore. Support your local orkester no matter how bad it is, though

/co/ haahahahahh

So /lit/ has the advantage that the primary medium for literature is books, and books are kind of cheap if you don't go crazy, a lot of the best ones are in the public domain already, and you can read them in podunk, and for some reason the people that slurp up the slop aren't as big on yapping about it online, partly because a lot of the slop is basically porn for women.

What’s wrong with that?

Be grateful. Imagine a world where the majority of /lit/ users unironically hates the /lit/ top 100 books and only wants to discuss dark romance and YA slop. This is essentially the current state of /mu/ and its grim. We've got like a handful of the old guard trying to hold it together in an attempt keep the spirit of /mu/ alive but its mostly over for that board

It's childish and obnoxious behavior. Posturing for status on a website where nobody has any status or influence is the epitome of pissing into the wind. Mostly though it's just grating to have to continually deal with people who view literature as a means to an end (social status) and who have nothing of value to add to any discussion, and only use books as props.

I have a court date next month and I've been wondering what book I should bring with me to read that should the judge see will give me the best outcome. I'm tossing up between the Dante (I'm penitent), Emily Dickinson (I'm passive and don't hate women), and 'Anecdotes of the Cynics' (I'm based). What would you recommend?

Or /ck/ where the perennial threads are:
- do Americans really? (oh yes we do and you probably do too, or would)
- why does McDonald's cost so much?
- is fine dining really worth it? The Michelin thing is just a scam right?
- what do you eat at the buffet?
- who has the best onion powder-black pepper-and-msg seasoned fries?

>is fine dining really worth it? The Michelin thing is just a scam right?
And what's the general consensus on this issue?
>>
>>24955722
The old guard that ran generals on serious /x/ topics like astrology, alchemy, evocation, etc. have pretty much given up. The pastebins are still out there I guess.
>>
>>24955727
Generally /ck/ can't afford it and there's a lot of reverse snobbery. And one person will show up and say something sensible

The whole of society has been on pause since 2020.
Whether its the West's Soviet disenchantment moment due to people no longer creating/participating and becoming cynical because they know a le DEI will get the job (and thus there are no cool or interesting products to buy with money), or because COVID made le workers realize they didn't need to give so much of a shit about making their boss rich, who can really say.

But everything sucks now.
