No literature published post-2020 has gotten even close to how engaging the writing is in this vidya. Face it, games are the new literature medium of the 21st century. Prove me wrong.

Oh and pro tip? You can't ; )

DO NOT engage with this thread in any way. OP is a faggot and does not deserve your energy.

how come i've only seen one elysium-like on steam which is basically a long linear narrative about a loser protagonist despite the game being a huge hit. how come there are so few copycats? maybe there are a bunch in the pipeline.

I will accept your concession, m'lady.

I'm not going to prove you wrong I actually agree with that statement. DE is amazing because it even uses great writing with great themes in an interactive way, the cast of thoughts arguing with each other is also just so good and makes the dialogue even better.
>>
>>24962941
Id agree but I thought the writing of this game was extremely overrated, I also havent read anything written after 2015, so i don't know the quality.
>>
>>24962941
Comrade, there is no need to continue the 24/7/365 propagandizing here, /lit/ is already our board.

I did not find the writing very engaging, but I also haven't read many books published in the last five years.
>>
>>24962941
aren't a lot of games just queer books though.

It's not really that brilliant. It's just nihilism-maxing commie cope. I wouldn't put it might higher than the typical posts on /r9k/.

Then again, the "literature" people read these days is absolute garbage-slop nigger noise, so maybe they're more impressed by it relative to what they usually read.

>the writing of this game was extremely overrated
If you focus on the prose or each individual part of the story it's pretty good but not worth the hype.
I started it and mildly enjoyed some of it like the different voices of the body/mind, though cartoony, but dropped it after maybe an hour. Felt too on-rails and I didn't think you could even die.

It only gets worthy of hype when you really get into it, all the different parts weave meta-narratives that are more relevant to the year 2025 than any of the individual parts.
We're broken, still obsessing over the woman-liberalism-Jesus creature but she's an ex-thing, not here anymore.
Our job is to stop crime, force society to function "or else" but we don't have any real stable convictions to back that up. No emotional appeal like nationalism and communism had, just bureaucrats yapping about GDP. When we're faced with the real problems of real people the supposed authority of our position becomes irrelevant because it's nonsense, it doesn't apply in the real world, the only authority we have is from our personal charisma.
The ultimate authority/god in the machine in end is nature.

The issue with games is that bodies of text are not the optimal way to tell the story. Sometimes they're not needed whatsoever to tell the story. Then you also get into the way the story serves the game, which differs between genres.
CRPGs are meant to have bodies of text, but that's still only one element. The idea of a game's 'writing' being good solely due to the quality of the prose is shamefully ignorant for the one who believes it (and not that I'm saying Disco's is exceptional).

There's also plot, and how the plot serves the game: In Disco it's shit, because it's in a genre with character choice, and the way that's handled in Disco is pretty awful for a game that leans so heavily upon its story (it's about as edgy as teletubbies if the word "nigger" was hacked into a couple of frames).
There's also character, which is not only whether a character has realistic qualities, but whether those qualities are consistent with one another and whether the direction that must necessarily take the character is either followed or abandoned in order to serve the needs of the plot. Disco sucks at this, Harry is a cartoon character.

The writer of this game is an author. He wrote a novel which was published. Many, many people do that, and have done that multiple times. The author is less experienced than a great deal of women who crank out novels; they are better than him at his craft.
Yet, as you would scoff at such novels, you choose to cling to this one as being exceptional in any way - other than the one way that evidently truly matters to you, that it is not a book but a video game that wants to make you feel like you read a book.
You did not. You played a mid game.

i dont get why the hardy boys involved klasje into their cover story at all when their intentions were to keep the case away from her. they could have said he raped someone else, they could have said they killed him for another reason (of which there were plenty, despite them turning out to be red herrings). and why the fuck did they not get their story straight with klasje? klasje simply denies their rape cover story outright. this seems like nitpicking but its so central to the story. also the subversion of the killer turns out to be a previously unintroduced character is overdone despite how cheap it is.

the dialogue is engaging but it would lose most of its appeal without the voice acting. the format, mechanics and general flow is great, planescape needed a facelift. but save scumming does kill the fun a little and its built to encourage it. the side stuff i liked best.

Estonian shit.
Of you think its """"""""""""""""writing""""""""""""""""""" is good in any way, you're underage and should abandon 4chan. Immediately. It's illegal for you to be here.
If you're above 18 and think that """""""""""""""""""""writing""""""""""""""" is good, you're a retard. It's not Nabokov. It's not Joyce. It's not even Stephen King.
If you're awed by this trash, it means you're an illiterate and don't belong here.
>>24964728
Anon actually explained well why the game sucks from a literary level. But I guess you must be unable to parse the meaning of three simple paragraphs to like the writing of this game.

You can kill yourself trying to grab your tie in the first 5 minutes of the game lol

They are the de facto police force in the area and didn't include her. You get the simp emotional and he reveals he's butthurt about getting cucked. As soon as that's revealed they know you'll find the girl who lives next to you.
The two simps, the lesbo and big hardy assumed the girl must have killed him in self defence and ignore her when she says she didn't. They want to protect the slut but more importantly present the union as something you don't mess with. When she doesn't go along with the fantasy the simp gets angry at the slut. From his perspective he protected her instead of arresting her and she repays him by lying about it to the cops. You're then given the option of following him down the simp route or jailing the slut. She needs to be locked up but we also know she didn't do it so many players are reduced to simping by a video game.
The killer is the wound on the city you see in every frame. The guy himself is presented as a puppet with no life in the eyes.
>>24965100
He didn't "explain" shit about anything. He presented plebian, unreasoned opinions based on not being able to read simple subtext in a fucking videogame.
To sum up:
>awful
Handled great.
>not edgy enough
ok faggot
>cartoonish
The character is more realistic, relatable and internally consistent than any of you deranged zoomer retards.

>magical cryptid for no reason
>it wasn't communism or oneitis he was suffering from a magical crytpid
>game ends with "ah ha I was the janitor in the cafe all along" dialogue even though you literally couldn't talk to them
>one of the most painfully boring maps of all time, even less imaginative side characters than in Elden Ring
>it's an RPG but you can't avoid talking to the same exact characters every playthrough
>if you complain about the game seeming meaningless, well it was designed to be meaningless and boring chud, that's social commentary, what are you a le fascist?
one of the few games I regret playing, to quote Peter Griffin, it insists upon itself.
>>
>>24964728
both comments were coherent and make a salient point, why make a game if you just want someone to read mountains and mountains of text, why not just make it a Choose Your Own Adventure book, the gameplay is walking around a purposefully dull place and equipping a tie every 4 hours, it's confused, and none of the mountains of text actually immerse you, it's very un-natural dialogue. It's a bad game.

I dont understand why people who post this stuff arent forced to get raped
>>
>>24965128
the hardy boys are still lying about killing the guy when the rape story is claimed, so there is still a cover story involved even if they believe in the rape part, so one would think they would send at least someone to let the girl know about it to make sure they're on the same page about it. or have literally any other cover story. they're on bad enough terms that they can't talk to agree on a story but they still go through so much effort to protect the girl because of simpdom? so much convolution just to have a simple discrepancy between two stories make everything too easily unravel.
>The killer is the wound on the city you see in every frame.
not deducible. no fun. detective stories are games in themselves, where constraints provide value. disco gets its value from other places, sure, but ultimately not the case part.
>>
>>24965568
this is too much and in bad faith.
