most published art is born out of an inflated sense of self importance. if you don't believe that you actually have some grasp on something valuable then you won't put it out there. and water is wet.

Seems like you're telling on yourself. I write to subtly educate my reader about my worldviews. Very few people like reading textbooks, or they don't approach the subject because they think it's beyond their ken. So I use metaphor and story structure to teach things they otherwise wouldn't/couldn't learn. And sometimes, I just lash out at a world I can't stand.
