Do you prefer Sophocles or Euripides?
Sophocles, every one of his surviving plays is great. Euripides has plenty of solid plays but also some forgettable ones
Sophocles because I hate women
What about Aiskhulos?
>>24967431Even Women of Trachis? What if only the best seven of Euripides’ plays had survived?Let's say: Iphigenia in Aulis, Orestes, Baccae, Medea, Hippolytus, Hecuba, and Heracles?
>>24967390You rip-a Deez Nuts, bitch
>>24967390It's time that we admit Sophocles is just a bland, extended version of the myths. There's no point in reading them when I can just read the sparknotes versions of the myths and save some time.
>>24967498The divine spark is what makes Sophocles superior. Aside from The Bacchae, Euripides is such a collection of whiny, banal, mortals.
>>24967530Euripides had the stronger vision and poetic strength. Sophocles is just a snoozefest
>>24967530>>24967637Euripides is more modern so to speak because he’s a deconstruction of famous myths whereas Sophocles’ straight depiction of Gods as far reaching, omnipotent and just though cruel may seem outdated and uninteresting in comparison with Euripides’ Bacchae and Helen for instance.
>>24967530The Bacchae is great true
>>24967825It is an easy one to contrast with the Oedipus trilogy of Sophocles to display the difference between the twoBacchae>gods as cruel and indifferent. Persecute over even mildest slight>no chance of redemption for protagonist. Ends with his head severed and defiledOedipus >gods as cruel though with some justice to them.>redemption is possible through respect to the gods and atoning for sins- as found in Colonus It’s easy to see why the second one doesn’t appeal to you because it’s not doing anything to make a political or moral statement which your smoothbrain can apply to political situations

>>24967874Wha- what? No, that’s a basic overview of what happens in those stories not a citation from Euripides Holy fuck. Please die…
