State of the Sanderson 2025 Text & Video Versionshttps://www.brandonsanderson.com/blogs/blog/state-of-the-sanderson-2025https://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DnOe7VV5T-hwIt’s been twenty years since this all began with the publication of Elantris...It’s fun to look back at the State of the Sanderson from 2015 and see myself reminisce upon turning forty...I’m halfway through the main plan for the Cosmere, and feel like it’s going great, yet fifty feels more old by far than forty did at the time when it hit me.Tentative Cosmere Release Schedule UpdateLate 2026: The Fires of DecemberDecember 2028: Ghostbloods 1December 2029: Ghostbloods 2December 2030: Ghostbloods 3Biggest changes from last year are...me being uncertain where Elantris fits right now. I’d love to do the books in between Ghostbloods novels, but with so much Hollywood work this year (and coming up next year) I’m hesitant about committing to getting those ready at the speed I thought likely last year. We’ll see. I also am already starting to feel the call to return to Stormlight, so Horneater (and maybe early work on Book Six) are likely in the next few years.Other Cosmere ProjectsI'm moving White Sand to the back burner. The Night Brigade, Dragonsteel, The Silence Divine, the Grand Apparatus, Mythos, the Aether World book series, Free Fall Seven Layer Burrito World, Caveman Heist, Unnamed Other Ashyn Book. My, my. This list keeps growing, doesn’t it? That’s how it goes. Most of these are just idle thoughts, and none are promised. Many have been on there for over a decade, so I like to drop them into the list when I have something solid in mind, but I won’t be able to get to all (or even most) of them.

>>24968728>ghostbloodsIs this the new mistborn era?
>>24968784Yeah. He's also talked about doing a cyberpunk Mistborn era but isn't sure if he'll ever do it.
So what do I get into next>Riftwar>Final Chronicles of Thomas Covenant>Demon Princes>Longprice Quartet>something else, what?
I'm getting bored of The Expanse. On book 6 now. How do you kill 15 billion people and still make it boring? So many pointless inner monologues about dumb shit. Holden spending pages thinking to himself about how they can't fly everyone on Earth to the colonies all at once. No fucking shit, why do they feel the need to explain the most basic things. It's like the authors knew idiots were going to read it and couldn't trust them with basic science. I don't really know how to explain it but it feels like so much is happening, but at the same time nothing is happening at all. Also how is Avasarala still in power after overseeing the biggest catastrophe on Earth since the dinosaurs went extinct
>>24968675Very good. It's basically epic fantasy written by someone who doesn't write epic fantasy. Give Cook's writing style that alone is the biggest attraction.
>>24968637>week left in 2025>can't be bothered to read anything
>>24968664I find it funny how pure brawn and nothing else Jirel of Joiry is. It's not something you'd expect from a female protagonist in that kind of story.
>>24968664>>24968928Is her stories good? She's looking like a qt3.14
>>24968664Unironically what some good classic novels (60s-80s?) for strong barbarian 'fus? It's one of those situations that always stymie me where an archetype emerged that clearly encapsulates the whole of an idea, but tracing it back to actual material ends up being harder than expected. Red Sonja wasn't even an actual Howard character.
Good shit
>>24968999I assume you've read the Kane stuff?

>>24969026Nope. Are there ladies in it? The only non-Conan Conan-alike I've read so far is Gardner's Fox's Kothar. The man was a great low-price copycat.
Looks like the Top 100 creator ended the poll. Here's what the results apparently are. To be seen if anything further is done with it.https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeZ_q7ZqKXD2e-fSw2zAefzxbneNfuJahQ7OvAnRkldDa7u8g/viewanalytics

>>24969075The Belgariad is a very good and well-beloved read (and re-read, and re-read). Despite having the same sort of epic wars of men against evil gods kind of story, it feels a bit more homey rather than "legendary", with an additional dash of slice of life and reminder that it's really about Family.>pull up Pawn of Prophecy on my app (because I, sadly, haven't owned any paper since becoming a world traveler)>last read: 2,600 days agoLooks like it's about that time again.
>>24969068>>24969070These results don't seem representative at all. What does the poll creator have to say for himself?

>>24969109Seems unlikelythat you're white
>>24969075>>24969088My impression of Belgariad was familiar fantasy with greater emphasis on characters. In a way that might make it more appealing to modern readers.
