So what did everyone get for Christmas?

picrel is the kindle book hauls I got, plus I got 125 dollars in Barnes & Noble credits, which I'm probably to use to get some Marx, Smith, Hegel, and Tocqueville and maybe others, possibly a history of China or something. I also got tons of coffee, some food items and a few articles of clothing. more to come.

The Stillborn God i heard is good despite Lilla's liberalism. You should get Charles Taylor's A Secular Age if you don't already have it.

That’s on my reading list and I already pirated it along with every other major related book.

As for stillborn god it’s good from what I have read so far even though the lib-left bias of the author is pretty apparent. The author has a sort of naive and reductively rationalistic understanding of religion and assumes positive developments made in modernity were made by people like him operating in something close to his worldview rather than being a product of the western tradition he shoves into his own reductionist and somewhat dishonest frame in order to make his point. You can also tell he was an author that was not of a caliber which is capable of writing a work that transcends the particular context it was written in. The authors framing is very clearly strongly influenced by the religious and political context of the narrow window of time around which the book was written as viewed through his ideological bias.

I also have that edition of Melancholy of Resistance ordered but they must be out of stock because they just sent me the other books I ordered and told me they'd send me that one when they get it.
