How much am I missing by reading picrel without having read the Bible beforehand? I’m at Part 2, and it’s the best thing I’ve ever read.
>>24982934>Best thing I've ever readI'd like to hear your thoughts after you finish the book. I was feeling kinda like you at that part too.
>>24982934Part 2 is boring as hell, unless you enjoy pointless interactions that lead nowhere and teach you nothing. The first part is really cool, the epilogue is beautiful to read (at least for me, most people hate it, probably the same people that hate Lost ending)
>>24982934Well, I assume you grew up in a western country and have at least passing knowledge of the Bible. If yes, you're good. One of the bigger allusions is literally spelled out for you on page. If you ever read The Brothers Karamazov, read the Gospels and Job.
>>24982934>>24984311You need to be knowledgeable of the bible to read C&P?
>>24984384you absolutely benefit from being familiar with the bible and Catholicism in general
Read chapter 11 of St. John's gospel, and you should be set.
>>24984384You need to be knowledgeable of the Bible for the entirety of the western canon
>>24984384you need knowledge of the bible to live, yes.
>>24984384Literally everyone who ever wrote anything that is of value to read started with the Bible..
>>24984885. . .
>>24984384You need knowledge of the Bible, the Iliad, the Odyssey, and some Hellenic mythos to truly understand any piece of western literature. If you don’t have this knowledge, then your understanding of every western book you’ve ever read is Reddit tier at best and retard tier at worst. Yes, even Twlight, 50 Shades of Grey, and Morning Glory Milking Farm.
>>24984495why the fuck would you need catholicism when this was written by an EO man?
>>24982934absolutely nothingdostoevsky doesn't actually use the bible as a meaningful building block; understanding a few core tenants of christianity is important to get what his point actually is, but the moral questions he poses are more about the state of society that he sees around him. to that end it's more important to understand russian society during his life and also know his own personal history
>>24984900>russian>west
>>24982934>picwtf is that cover dawg
>>24985184Any recommendations of books that use the bible as a meaningful building block?
