>Gore Vidal, author of that trashy pornographic book Myra Breckinridge soon to be a major motion picture by 20th Century Fox? Well, I'll bet your mother's proud of you. Well, of course I read it, and after all the other girls in the office finished it we had it burned. Just tell me what right have you got to impose your vulgar degeneracy on the American people? Artistic merit? What's so artistic about a man who turns into a woman?
IT WAS A DIFFERENT TIME
>>24983209>Thomas Pynchon, author of that trashy pornographic book Gravity's Rainbow never to be a major motion picture by any studio? Well, I'll bet your mother's proud of you. Well, of course I'm reading it, almost halfway done, and after all the other girls in the office finish it we'll have it burned, but that might take years. Just tell me what right have you got to impose your vulgar degeneracy on the American people? Artistic merit? What's so artistic about a woman who poops into a man's mouth? By the way, would you be interested in trying that in person...? What's that? A recluse? No worries, Mr. Pynchon, nobody has to know. The Bianca scene? Do I have a daughter? I don't think I got to that part yet.
When I read it I thought it was a gay version of Notes From Underground, very entertaining narrative from the POV of an insane person. Then I find out it's considered a seminal text in LGB whatever culture. This fucking country, man.
>>24983209did they really make a movie out of this?
>>24984797Yes they did but it’s really it’s own thing. It’s more like a proto-Youthbe poop where they have Mae West and Racquel Welch say sex stuff and then edit in clips of Shirley temple “reacting” to it.
>>24984800That sounds awesome actually

>>24985208i watched a john waters movie once i was expecting some super sassy gay stuff but instead it was mean spirited and just fucking awful god damn that was unpleasant
>>24985238i don't like that campy tranvestite stuff and i don't think gore vidal did either which is why this book is kind of surprising
>>24985330I didn't think Camille Paglia did but she wrote the Introduction
>>24986207maybe it's because they saw the novel as skewering that kind of culture rather than glorifying or normalizing it
