So I'm trying to get the ball rolling on Royal Road, I just lost my job so while I'l looking I'm writing a shit load. I have a serial series I'm releasing every friday, I have a Lit RPG that got a bit of following, and I saw as I'm uploading my shit theres a genre called "Deck Building" it's like Lit RPG but with an element of pic related. I just so happen to have a story idea that revolves around a deckbuilding mechanic (I grew up on MTG and Yugioh and still play MTG to this day) so I was thinking tomorrow I'll sit down, have some breakfast and work out the rules for a cardgame (based on this idea I have) and start writing a series based on it, throw in all the tropes, (The MC is a former champion who retired and is reluctantly called back to the game, the young kid who wants to be the best and seeks him for guidance, the idiot who lucks into wins but has passion and sad back story, and the girl whose not good at the game but loves fangirling about the characters and myth of the game, and of course...the rich asshole whose the current champion and needs to be dethroned (arc 1 villian who will join the good guys eventually)so yeah, does anyone here have experience with the "Deckbuilding" genre, I know it's super niche, will never be called up to the big leagues, but could be a niche audience that gets me some clicks if its really good (I actually am a pretty good writer, won't list my resume here but I know my craft) I figure if I can bring quality story telling to this craft in whit I imagine is a VERY niche audience maybe I can bring some people over. And fuck it, sounds like it might be fun to write. I don't write for money or to get published someday, I write because I love writing (Got that demon Hemmingway talked about) I think i can get some clicks off this and that's all I wantSo yeah, any tips for the "Deck Building" Genre?
