Do I start with taoism or buddhism?

Confucianism.
All Chinese philosophy is just “bend over and take it”.
Buddhism is bend over and take it “because who cares about anything caring about shit is so uncool and gay lmao.”
Taoism is bend over and take it because “if you take it well like a good lil bitch you’ll gain magic powers and be able to fly”
At least with confucianism it’s “bend over and take it, but we’re all bending over, and the top is the ghosts of your ancestors without a corporeal penis”

Read general books that explain the core principles and archetypal factors that define their nature and then synthesize them into something greater.

I read Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu as a young teen and I never felt like I needed more than that after those two.

Koans are interesting though; I'd check those out instead of Buddhism proper, which I find quite dull.

Zhuangzi, Tao Te Cheng, and use of the iching is enough for anyone. Start slow. Take in a little bit at a time. Over years you'll get it. Buddhism is a bit too nihilistic in my view, cycles of karma and dharma and breaking them and whatnot. Not necessary at all in my view.

Lolno. Taoism is "life sucks, don't take it personal and enjoy the ride without predisposition". Buddhism is "if you desire anything you will suffer because desire sucks, so don't do that". Confucianism is "here are the virtues so you don't suck, have fun applying them in nonsensical edgecases".

You can understand Taoism instinctively.
You can't understand Buddhism without 10,000 hours of meditation.
>>
