Bombadil is an amazing character and I love that he doesn't fit into the neat hierarchy of the ME worldbuilding, he's simply a odd forest spirit who doesn't give a shit about anything but what's happening in his little forest. BUT, his chapters in LotR are extremely out of place and probably should have been massively trimmed down. They're a remnant of LotR as a spiritual sequel to The Hobbit which doesn't fit in with the seriousness of what LotR became, and he raises a lot of questions about the world that are never answered.

>>24990412Interior designers hate pre-existing shelves full of books, because a pre-existing shelf full of books represents a large, major visual/spatial element within a room that they can't get rid of (they would love to get rid of it) and barely even move (there's only one or two logical spots in any given room for a bookshelf, two at most) , so the best they can do is to try to design around the thing that they themselves didn't come up with. Devil's advocate: you ask an interior designer to (re) design some interior. It's literally their job to change things around. Then you present them with a large solid group of things and then go "No, not that." It's a bit like going to a garage with your own parts and demanding that the mechanic just install the parts that you brought in, or going into a restaurant with your own eggs and demanding that the kitchen just take the eggs you brought in and scramble those, not the ones from their own supply.The obvious solution, of course, is to simply set up your own bookshelf as you see fit, and to never engage the services of an interior designer.
