HarperCollins is going to use AI to translate novels, and they’ve already fired all of their translators.
It starts with romance novels, which admittedly have a formulaic structure to them already, but soon it’ll be all genres.
That new translation of Crime and Punishment? AI. The new weird European writer that just won some literary award? AI those books into English. The Bible? Hell, why not use AI?

Not my problem

Someone someone has half a brain to realize this is a horrible idea? Even with language similar enough you can use competent enough models. Translation is never 1:1.

Another reason to not buy anything published after 2022.

It doesn't matter.

Correct. Now, one could make a defense saying this is actually one of the few things LLMs could in theory automate, since the only thing they're any good at is language.

However, this is just one more front in the ERA OF SLOP. I keep seeing people posting products they clearly bought off some ad on instagram or reddit, and they're complaining that they didn't get, let's say, an intricate knitwork jumper for 5 dollars, but a shirt with a print on it. On amazon you get people whining their 5 dollar custom made mug just has a picture of the AI mug they thought they were buying.
Moral of the story is the consumer is fucking retarded. It doesn't matter how obvious it is you will buy slop, they still do it. Dropshipping will be the precursor sign of this tendency when we look back in 100 years. Cheap chink plastic crap. People are just used to everything becoming shit and they don't have the mental wherewithal or personal agency to do anything about it.
A sentient being can't look at 3 minutes of "rolls" or tiktok or youtube shorts without wanting to kill themselves. Yet this is where they're increasingly getting their views. How many braincells does it take to realize you're getting fed slop?

Comments focus on how everything's slop and try to blame corporations for making evil AI when it's their own behaviors that allow this shit to happen. Harlequin is already romance slop of the boomer age, what's the fucking difference getting a machine translation on top? Some more shit on top of your shit. People WILL buy it. Some will complain. They won't change their behavior, it will be a net gain for the company.

As the domain of possibilities increasingly closes, the only way for advancement will be revolutionary political (parapolitical?) struggle. I hope this is obvious to everyone by now. I hope I make it out of the future alive. I hope all you do too.

anyone reading these was already reading the human equivalent of sloppa.

Personally I never really cared about living in this world.

Just made them slap a notice on any books using AI so readers can just refuse to buy them
>>
>>24989860
Will not happen.

It's romance slop, retard. Harlequin pioneered hiring people who can write quickly to write from a prompt so they could churn out smut faster than any other publisher.

Why does AI set off midwits? It's not like you're creating anything that others will be interested in. I get there are a bunch of jeets spamming bullshit on social media for passive income but in the end AI is just a search engine.
