New to HP Lovecraft, started with thisSome of the worst writing I've ever seen
>>25006837(You) problem.
>>25006841Lovecraft problem.
>>25006851Doesn't really seem like his problem when we're still discussing his books 100 years later . Or is everyone just pretending to be impressed by his work? Idk i can really tell but youre a smart OP you tell me
>>25006837Is there really a stand alone book for that? It would be like 10 pages long.
>>25006837Love how cults performed rituals to wake up Cthulhu and never works, a boat of sailors come by and accidently wakes him up
>>25006837Before I take your opinion seriously, please read the first paragraph of the first chapter of Charles Dickens' Bleak House and explain in your own words what it means. I don't mean in a symbolic or thematic sense, just describe what literally happens on the page. No sparknotes or AI allowed.
Call of Cthulhu isn't that great. The Dunwich Horror and The Shadow over Innsmouth are as close as he gets to being readable.
>>25006856His writing itself is unremarkable. People just like the ideas he came up with about unfathomable god aliens
>>25007072This. CoC is honestly worse than most of his stuff. I recommend Dagon as a good starter.
>>25006837He's more of a concept kind of guy.
>>25006837Just take it slow. He's rough at times but not unreadable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjKPo6Vw5ew
Cool idea and genuinely a terrifying scenario and though but yeah shit writing and dude is 1000% a meme
>>25006851>Doesn't really seem like his problem when we're still discussing his books 100 years laterThis.
People who pseud out about prose do so because they're too dumb to discuss ideas. They have nothing meaningful to say so they imagine making contrarian comments based on prose quality will fool people into thinking they're smart enough to develop taste.

>>25006837Please don't get angry at me OP, but I think it's very originally written and has an amazing composition. I really like it.
CoC is a genuinely excellent horror story. The way it builds up tension is masterful and if you didn't feel that it's for one of two reasons:>you've seen too many comical depictions of Cthulhu in popular media and couldn't compartmentalize enough to take it seriously>you got filtered by the high level proseIn either case, it's a problem of your IQ not being high enough, probably because you're brown.
>>25006837Reddit book
>>25007243I care about prose. I prefer Updike to EL James, but that's me.
>>25007243High level ideas can't be discussed with low level prose. That's why the only thing Hemingway has to say is "um communism is good actually".
>>25007331>pseud postWay to prove the point.
>>25007335>no argumentI accept your concession.
>>25007337The concession is that you're a pseud who confirmed everything said in >>25007243. I'm glad you accept it.
>>25007373>uhhhh if i can't understand it then it doesn't mean anythingsorry bud but you're brown
>>25006837Could you elaborate why did you think it was unreadable? Was it the vocabulary, the narrative structure, maybe a boring plot?
>>25007496Blocks of textLots of long, dense sentencesToo many adjectivesToo many adverbsToo many prepositional phrasesToo many metaphorsToo many clumsy metaphorsToo many asides (you want to tell me a story, tell me a story; I don't give a shit about your asides that take me out of the narrative)Too many vague words/descriptionsHe uses the word "queer" a lot, so overuse of the word, which is very gay The writing style of a high school senior in AP English who thinks "this is how smart people write"In short, the opposite of clear, elegant proseIt's barely legible, it's grating on the ears>>25007302>In either case, it's a problem of your IQ not being high enough, probably because you're brown. You wouldn't get it, but some of us actually have an ear for clear, elegant proseThere is a club for usThe members of the club are chosenYou were NOT chosen to be in the club
>>25007276>The Outsider not even mentionedshit list
>>25007889If pulp genre fiction is too dense and abstract for you then you have never read elegant prose ever in your life.
>>25006954This, OP is simply illiterate.
AND WITH STRANGE EONS EVEN DEATH MAY DIE
>>25007276Placing tCoC, Rats in the Walls, Shadow Out of Time, Dexter Ward that low should be criminal. Also why would you mention The Silver Key when it's the first half of one story? You've also placed Whisperer in Darkness too high. Shite list overall. Also I just realized I still have never read The Thing on the Doorstep. I'll fix that today.
>>25006837Yep, he's pretty turgid. Reading him is like wading through mud.If it wasn't for a few heavy metal albums and an RPG, nobody would have heard of him.
