When does it get good?
Read The Color of Magic to get a sense for the setting. Then skip to Guards! Guards! and read the City Watch series. Those are his best.
obligatory it doesn't
>>25006854Never. Drop it and go back to video games, zoomie.
>>25006854When you close it.
>>25007749Do not do this. His multi part series are awful, especially guards and the sisters.Read Color of Magic, The Light Fantastic, and... that's pretty much it. The books decline in quality over time and rincewind is by far his best character. Small Gods is okay. You will see a lot of his fans fawn over the series. This is meaningless. You will see this in any generesloppa authors bib as low IQs can learn to love anything by means of repetition.
>>25007795the first two make sense as they're the original set up and his subsequent books are a great departure from themsmall gods is a good standalone book; has some references to other books but they're not overly important. Some of his books are bloody awful though. Monstrous regiment is garbage. But Night Watch is still my favourite, up there with last continent and maybe soul music.
>>25006854One of the most reddit series ever written.
>>25007824That's not true, it's just one of the series that most heavily influenced reddit's early culture.only some of which it retains.
>>25006854Never.
Last Hero the graphic novel about resentful old heroes trying to destroy the gods with an enormous bomb might actually be the peak of the series.
>>25007795Extremely correct post. Pratchett works when he's parodying previous fantasy writers and basically never otherwise. His ideological bloviating is unbearable: at once condescending and totally vapid.
>>25007824Nothing is more Reddit than Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
>>25008303Taking turns with your wife getting fucked by her black boyfriend while listening to an audiobook of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
>>25008313Touche.
>>25006854Begin with The Color of Magic, and if you like it, continue with the subsequent books. If you don’t like it, but don’t hate it either, try both Mort and Guards! Guards!.If you don’t like either of them, Discworld is not for you.Discworld books range from OK to great up to Night Watch. After that, it’s a free fall, with the possible exception of Going Postal, Making Money, and the Tiffany Aching series, which are passable. The Tiffany Aching series peaks at I Shall Wear Midnight. Do not read The Shepherd’s Crown. The short stories are worth it; The Science of Discworld series absolutely isn’t.
Never
>>25008313His cock hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't.
>>25009284>His cock hung in the sky in much the same way that dicks don't.Fixed that for ya
>>25008367>Begin with The Color of Magic, and if you like it, continue with the subsequent books.Horrible advice because the tone of Discworld as a whole is extremely different than what you get in Colour of Magic.I would honestly just skip the early noveld and advise to start with Reaper Man, if I could convince someone to read a book and simulatneously skip half of it because the Wizards plotline is shit. But after Reaper Man you get to the good stuff : Witches Abroad, Small Gods, Lords and Ladies...If at this point you like the series you can always go back and read the early novels, they're not awful (for the most part), you're just not missing anything if you leave them be.
>>25009407CoM & LF are just so disconnected from the rest of the books.Like something alien.
