I'm three chapters in and this is garbage.

I'm out of touch with literature so I'm asking you guys if I'm wrong.
Is this a good book? Do I keep reading and learn to enjoy it? I would have thought that an "international best seller" would be more thoughtful and less clumsy.

It's a bit bloated and overall Murakami's weakest book, but it's still quite enjoyable. Give it a bit longer
>>
>>25008226
Okay if you say so. But I got the sense that this guy isn't a very good writer so I can't really imagine his best book being much better
>>

Murakami can only write two characters and one setting. His novels are basically identical each, so the best way to go at it is to pick the shortest work and see if you can stomach it. A second one will only reveal his mediocrity. He's pretty shit and 1Q84 is famously his worst.

I would hope you didnt choose a 1200 page book as your first murakami. That would tell me youre absolutely retarded.

Only a woman would say something like this
>>
>>25008199
read the wind up bird chronicle and leave it at that
>>
i binged that shed burning tale un audiobook form and liked it a lot. is that his best?
>>

It's shit on every page. Why would it matter if it was shit 1200 times or 200 times?

>I’m just here to shitpost I haven’t actually read a page of this
Try suicide next time. I hear it’s enlightening I’d love to read your thoughts on it afterward.

Already said in the first post, I'm on chapter 3. According to my ereader that's 57 pages. And I'm getting hit with paragraphs like this one:

> As she headed for Sangenjaya Station, she passed a policeman on the
> street. He was a tall young officer, walking rapidly, heading somewhere in
> particular. She tensed up for a moment, but he looked straight ahead,
> apparently in too much of a hurry even to glance at her. Just before they
> passed each other, Aomame noticed that there was something unusual about
> his uniform. The jacket was the normal deep navy blue, but its cut was
> different: the design was more casual, less tight fitting, and in a softer
> material, the lapels smaller, even the navy color a touch paler. His pistol,
> too, was a different model. He wore a large automatic at his waist instead of
> the revolver normally issued to policemen in Japan. Crimes involving
> firearms were so rare in this country that there was little likelihood that an
> officer would be caught in a shootout, which meant an old-fashioned sixshooter
> was adequate. Revolvers were simply made, cheap, reliable, and
> easy to maintain. But for some reason this officer was carrying the latest
> model semiautomatic pistol, the kind that could be loaded with sixteen 9mm
> bullets. Probably a Glock or a Beretta. But how could that be? How could
> police uniforms and pistols have changed without her being aware of it? It
> was practically unthinkable. She read the newspaper closely each day.
> Changes like that would have been featured prominently. And besides, she
> paid careful attention to police uniforms. Until this morning, just a few
> hours ago, policemen were still wearing the same old stiff uniforms they
> always had, and still carrying the same old unsophisticated revolvers. She
> remembered them clearly. It was very strange.

followed immediately by:
> But Aomame was in no frame of mind to think deeply about such
> matters. She had a job to do.

I get that some of this is translated, but this just seems like dogshit to me.

Tell me what problems you have with this excerpt. Be specific
>>
>>25008199
I treated it more like an alright television show. It's very episodic in not being difficult to pick up and put down without struggling to find your spot. I thought overall it was a fine book and nothing special through I appreciated my time with it
>>
>>25008610
Well it's overly expository, isn't it
>>
>>25010850
No, I don't think so, but if this bothers you then you aren't going to enjoy the rest of the novel
>>
>>25008199
you need IQ 84 for that book
>>
>>25008433
Women love Murakami and are probably his primary audience
