This is basically an 800 page advertisement for logical analysis. Russell goes through all the major philosophers, explains why they were wrong and he hates them, and ends by claiming that, if we just get really autistic about language, answering all our questions will be easy.
And you know what? He was right. Now we've got it all figured out, and instead of wasting our time with philosophy, we can beat off and play video games.

Read Grayling or Turner instead

Yeah, I would've been better off reading a different history of philosophy if I wanted to learn more about the history of philosophy and less about Russell's opinions, but it was the book I had lying around, so it's what I read.

Mr. Apollinax

When Mr. Apollinax visited the United States
His laughter tinkled among the teacups.
I thought of Fragilion, that shy figure among the birch-trees,
And of Priapus in the shrubbery
Gaping at the lady in the swing.
In the palace of Mrs. Phlaccus, at Professor Channing-Cheetah's
He laughed like an irresponsible foetus.
His laughter was submarine and profound
Like the old man of the sea's
Hidden under coral islands
Where worried bodies of drowned men drift down in the green silence,
Dropping from fingers of surf.
I looked for the head of Mr. Apollinax rolling under a chair
Or grinning over a screen
With seaweed in its hair.
I heard the beat of centaur's hoofs over the hard turf
As his dry and passionate talk devoured the afternoon.
"He is a charming man"—"But after all what did he mean?"—
"His pointed ears… He must be unbalanced,"—
"There was something he said that I might have challenged."
Of dowager Mrs. Phlaccus, and Professor and Mrs. Cheetah
I remember a slice of lemon, and a bitten macaroon.

He was an autistic faggot that should have been beaten over the head by a koan-spouting zen monk.

Reminder that D. H. Lawrence saw through Russell and bullied him into silence and social withdrawal.

Wasn't Lawrence into cuckold porn?
>>
>>25010216
Well he stole a German aristocrat's wife.

Never happened. Russell talks about Lawrence in his autobiography. This gay letter was not that impactful.
>>
>>25010269
Self-serving auto-biographies written well after events are very poor sources of truth. There is a collection of letters, not just one. Lawrence accurately saw the twisted dwarf and wrote about it contemporanous to the events.

yeah, and your twisted /pol/tard fantasies about how russell is ‘muh reddit’ and was btfo by the fascist king lawrence are way more accurate.

Give two good examples of where being "really autistic about language" solves a problem that a major philosopher struggled with in their domain, please

>Russell goes through all the major philosophers and demonstrates he, at best, skimmed through one of their books and then dogmatically states they're wrong because he feels they're wrong
wow very "analytic" of you
> ends by claiming that, if we just get really autistic about language, answering all our questions will be easy.
more like we will be unable to articulate complex thoughts and unable to challenge insipid appeals to emotion

lot of words to say he was a smug, dishonest prick which makes him a perfect heir to plato and much of western philosophy
