We maintained that abstract thought (if obedient to logical rules) gave indisputable truth, that our moral judgment was ‘valid’, and our aesthetic experience not merely pleasing but ‘valuable’. The view was, I think, common at the time; it runs through Bridges “Testament of Beauty”, the work of Gilbert Murray, and Lord Russell’s “Worship of a Free Man”. Barfield convinced me that it was inconsistent. If thought were a purely subjective event, these claims for it would have to be abandoned. If one kept (as rock-bottom reality) the universe of the senses, aided by instruments and coordinated so as to form ‘science’, then one would have to go much further - as many have since gone - and adopt a Behavioristic theory of logic, ethics, and aesthetics. But such a theory was, and is, unbelievable to me. I am using the word ‘unbelievable’, which many use to mean ‘improbable’ or even ‘undesirable’, in a quite literal sense. I mean that the act of believing what the behaviorist believes is one that my mind simply will not perform… It is as final as a physical impossibility. I was therefore compelled to give up realism. I had been trying to defend it ever since I began reading philosophy… Realism satisfied an emotional need. I wanted Nature to be quite independent of our observation; something other, indifferent, self-existing… But now, it seemed to me, I had to give that up. Unless I were to accept an unbelievable alternative, I must admit that mind is no late-come epiphenomenon; that the whole universe was, in the last resort, mental; that our logic was participation in a cosmic Logos.

Finished reading Burke's on the Sublime.The most dominant emotion within feeling of the Sublime is some sort of fear. It stuns, it takes all attention to itself. Height, width, loudness, dazzling color, darkness(because confusion, or a lack of understanding make things bigger in one's mind), blinding lights(like a sun), all help it arise. My personal explanation for this effect is the following:While being confronted to something scary, a threat, a grave danger, you have a rush of adrenaline and it makes you very aware, and for example with a predator in front of you, you'd keep staring at it, stunned, these are the *effects* of fear. The way the Sublime arises is that you suggest the impression of fear through the use of its *consequences*. By creating something so big, that takes up all your vision, or all your mind to process, you imitate the heightened attention towards a singular thing that fear typically creates, because you feel all the consequences of fear, a cousin feeling of it arises, an evokation of fear, the sublime. Beauty is associated with it because strong harmony and proportions help making a thing singular, into one big unit, and it helps gives a sense of power, disjointed things hold no power, they don't seem to at least. I think it makes sense this way, I see the same process in art: although you're not sad, if you hear a music that through its plays with frequencies, imitates a state of sadness, imitates what it feels like internally to be sad, then you'll start being more mellow; you're not sad, but an evokation of how it feels is enough to touch sadness nonetheless.Tbh it's a term I'm not very used to thinking about, I'm sure I'm missing something in its relation to beauty, meh

Weird how rootless people have become. Both politically and in terms of where they call home. Becoming more rare for people to have a hometown in which their family has lived for more than one generation, or to stay in their hometowns if they have one. Even the strong ethnic groups, the supposedly strong, are shredded; the second, the third generation are unrecognizable to their grandparents, the values sandpapered away, the culture worn off, all replaced by the relentless need to succeed economically no matter the method. A hundred years of this and there will only be one minority left, the elite floating above the masses of vaguely brown, vaguely foreign people infected with a deranged form of the American Dream, a sea of a billion side hustlers with a grindset and an attitude and not a single genuine value besides the value of the dollar. I hope I'm not coming off as a communist here because I'm definitely not. I don't trust utopian visions regardless of political aisle, whether the universalist fantasy of Marx or the individual pursuit of happiness of modern unbridled capital. People like to tell me about their dreams but they're always thoroughly uninteresting to me. My dreams are probably the same to them, so I rarely tell them. They're just recollections of past thoughts or events in various levels of disjointedness.What's interesting is how intense they feel when you're having them. Bad is worse and good is better. I originally posted this on /g/.Well my burnout has evolved into something different.I've been working this week after a three weeks long vacation, where I slept a lot, and was mostly at home reading and being comfy. At the end of the vacation I felt great, and my usual anxiety was gone.So I have decided that my health comes first. Now I'm no longer burnout or stressed but I feel genuinely unable to care about my job anymore and I'm slacking off a lot.Today I woke up at 8:00, turned the computer on, set my mouse jiggler and went back to bed. When I woke up I had breakfast and I've spent all morning doing jack shit. I even worked out on company time. I know this is not right, and it will be detrimental for me in the long run but I simply don't care.I still feel the same.
