Nabby on Ezra Pound>Pound, Ezra. Definitely second-rate. A total fake. A venerable fraud.
>>25025936Cantos is unreadable swill and this guy is only shilled for his political positions like Mishima is.
>>25026680Many people have read it fine. Pound personally created modernist literature as though by force of will. You can have reservations and criticisms of his project, as he himself did, but your attitude is one if arrogant stupidity. Mishima is popular for his erotics and sense of beauty
>>25026804Mishima and Pound are popular here because they’re fascist adjacent.
>>25025936Nabokov probably had a simple and old fashioned notion of poetry. I don't know how anyone with a refined appreciation of verse-music could have a total dislike for Ezra Pound. He has undoubtedly written some beautiful verses.
>>25026958>beautiful versesdon’t mean ‘poetry’
>>25026975If language is both verse and beautiful then whatever other criteria do you need for poetry?
He's right. Pound was the Stephen Mitchell of his day. But I did love Pound's concept for the cantos, but his execution was just terrible apart from a handful of choice poems like Canto XVII. The work insists upon itself even by calling English poetry "cantos".
>>25026999are you under the impression poetry is just verse-craftsmanship?
>>25027049No, that's why I added 'beautiful'. It seems to me you have a highly subjective and arbitrarily personal definition of poetry.
>>25027061subjective AND personal?
>>25027065Okay so you're a retard. I guess I should have figured that when you said beautiful verse isn't poetry.
>>25027067even ezra pound would disagree with that
