>be me
>sit down to read
>i hear the words in my head but then it starts again
>second thought stream unrelated to reading material takes over
>realize i haven't been paying attention to the book even though I have continued to sound the words out in my head for a page or two
>go back and reread previous pages
>once again lose myself in second thought stream
>put the book down and give up

is this a midwit thing? dopamine screen addiction? This has to be a common phenomenon. How do you stop it?

read out loud to your self and make note of punctuation
>>
Either your attention span is fried or you're forcing yourself to read some pretentious book you don't actually care about and your subconscious is trying to alert you to that fact
>>
you were born an idiot or something is turning you into one, analize yourself anon. the second one is more likelier
>>
>>25042861
this works while doing it for the most part. but the moment I stop and read in my head again the second stream will start and I'll tune out

>>25042874
it most recently happened while reading Baudrillard's simulacra.
I really like the concept but it may be above my reading level. The second thought stream thing happens to me with just about any book though
>>

You might have adhd

more likelier, damn

it must be short form video content.

It's not a midwit thing. It's a true 140+iq thing. Our thoughts are greater than the books we read! If the greatest works of literature can't hold us from our own great ideas then that's their fault. It's up to us to ponder our ideas and create so we can enlighten the world of our genius!
>>

>simulacra
Baudrillard talks like a huge fag. its not an enjoyable read for anyone.
>>
>>25042899
no I am verifiably a 120s pseud. my second though stream will be retarded bullshit scenarios practicing for conversations I might have with people in the future
>>
>>25042901
he uses a lot of wordcel terms. I was afraid to criticize him in fear of being called a retard. Baudrillard and Evola are absolutely miserable to read. But they get highly recommended on here.
>>
>>25042916
having good or at least thought provoking ideas doesn't make you a good writer. sci fi is often overvalued for this very reason.
>>
I don't lol. The only way to prevent this is to become a retard and just think whatever thoughts the book tells you to think. If your thoughts wander just go back to wherever you last left off.
>>

that happens when I'm reading boring things, very often with Aristotle for instance.

Multiple "solutions":
Work or workout and exhaust yourself, or focus on your breathing 4-7-8 technique type shit to slow yourself down, put yourself in a relax and tired mood basically.

Drop what you're reading if it's really wasting your time.

Try to make what you're reading more interesting to you by first asking yourself questions and pondering on whatever you're reading, instead of diving right in, just a couple minutes to reflect on why you're reading the thing.

Take a pause if you've been reading for some time. When I have a book and some passage was very strong and very cognitively heavy, I almost always stop reading because I know that I'll keep ruminating on that passage. so I take a pause and give time to what's important, that's how good thoughts emerge best anyway.

>is this a midwit thing? dopamine screen addiction? This has to be a common phenomenon. How do you stop it?

I think it's pretty normal, uninterrupted flow-mode reading can never last really long, if you like what you're reading it shouldn't pose a problem.
>>
>>25042830
that's called reading. you process the things you read and don't simply repeat the words in your head like a dumb silly robot. but of course since you spend most of your time suppressing your internal world with electronics it all comes rushing out at the slightest provocation. just keep at it and it will simmer down

the journey is the goal nigger. did you even watch the anime?
>>
also laughing at the idiots itt who try to convince you to stop reading and instead power through the words just so you can say you "finished" the book.

why on earth would you want to finish a book as soon as possible? reading it is the fun part you fucking retards!
>>
>>25042830
Learn to recognize when it's happening, preferably within a few sentences of lapsing into thought about some other topic, and go back to where you trailed off and start again. Make this a habit while you read until it is ingrained. You won't stop doing it, but you will start catching it more quickly and getting back on track while the last bit that you did focus on properly is more fresh in your mind. The less interested you are in what you're reading, however, the harder this will be.

I'll try the breathing techniques before reading to see if it helps clear my mind, like the other anon said it's likely from not spending any time in a mindful state outside of reading. so it all comes flooding at once the moment there's some stillness.

>>25043308
this, I'll just trust the process and keep going through the tune outs. I can always reread whatever book i half assed

>>25043418
it's definitely an interest or reading level issue as well. I've been pushing myself to read books I wouldn't have picked out on my own. Baudrillard talks like a wordcel fag and is really unenjoyable to read, but I'm really interested in his ideas.
