it's got pretty decent advice for a self help book frankly, the guy's rather pessimistic and had a self-indulgent youth much like the hikikomori on this site so it's not like he's just spewing out of his cakehole.

Nah. It was one of the first self-help books I have read and even back then I wasn't impressed. But stuff like The Courage to be Disliked impressed me. That helped me to actually give less fucks.

That book is just shallow and a bit of self admiration. You will have the same knowledge with a five sentence summary of each Alan Watts, Camus, Marcus Aurelius and Ernest Becker. Haven't read Becker, but I would assume these guys were the main inspiration of the ideas mentioned in this book
