I went to a private school where we were literally forced to "read the Greeks" and I took Latin until I was 18.I then studied PPE at Oxford. The last 7 years of my life have been exclusively NON-FICTION.Reading isn't fun. I didn't need reading to be fun. It was 'productive and educational' (the two most important things).Which FICTION books do you think will help reform a purely non-fiction reader?
>>25074187Gravity's Rainbow
>>25074187Death's Head by David Gunn
>>25074187>Which FICTION books do you think will help reform a purely non-fiction reader?Go for some easy adventure books. Early Tom Clancy, James bond books, Sci fi in general, warhammer books, Tolkien. The most important thing is to realize that books can be entertainment just like movies or videogames.
>>25074187go back to r/HENRYUK. we're doomed if your oxford philosophy modules gave you no love of reading.
If you like space and science, read Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
>>25074187I don't know you well enough to say what you'd enjoy. You might find Nausea by Sartre relatable.Stop hating yourself for other people's jealousy. Learn to love what you have and strive for even more

>>25074882I actually relate to the meme. Yeah, it's meant to poke fun at a certain stereotype, but like... what's wrong with being like that?
>>25075631It's fine if you don't expect everyone else to do the same. These guys always start bloviating and being condescending when other people start talking about books they read. You see it even on this board when someone asks about a genre book. They're the intellectual equivalent of religious scolds telling everyone not to fuck. Like just quietly be superior if you're superior.
>>25075631it’s lame.
>>25075631It's proufoundly insincere way of being, people who make being an intellectual their entire personality are usually intelligent but severely lacking in other personal qualities so they overcompensate by leaning on their only talent. You should strive to fix the insecurities that make you act like that instead.>>25076826There's absolutely nothing wrong with letting retards know that they're retards. Art started going to shit the moment that "let people enjoy things" became a dogma. By never questioning anyone's taste, you rob people of the possibilities of learning from people with better taste.
>>25076888I don't expect a 4channer to understand this, but all you're going to do by "letting retards know they're retards" is alienate yourself from the group. You're better off sowing seeds of interest in hopes of conversion.

>>25076903>but all you're going to do by "letting retards know they're retards" is alienate yourself from the group. What if I already have a group that recognizes the existence of retards and agrees with me that retards should stay quiet more often? I wouldn't need the approval of retards to have a social group then. This is how society has functioned for the vast majority of human history
>>25076913Well now you're alienated, anon. Enjoy your life of no friends and a mother who is ashamed of you.
>>25076927Why are you even interacting with retards then?
>>25076928I don't want evil and retarded "friends". Anyone who thinks like you doesn't grasp the concept of friendship or anything else. Every thought you have is deferred to a group in which everyone else is doing the same thing so no actual thinking ever happens.

Read autobiographies and memoirs to ease you into fiction. You won't feel like you're wasting your time. I recommend Cellini and Rousseau to start off with.

Be charming enough that people like you and have fun about 80% of the time. If you can't make witty jokes with the plebs then you're not actually smart. The other 20% you need to reveal your power level, not to put down others, but to raise them up and make them reconsider their tastes, desires etc..

>>25074187>Which FICTION books do you think will help reform a purely non-fiction reader?Patrick White, Tree of Man. Read it along side Kings and Chronicles. Good Modernist literature is basically inviting you into a knife fight where the winner gets showered in the neck blood of truth in a cumjackulation of death and meaning. If you've read seriously on hermeneutics you'll get what I'm saying. Open your anus to Patrick White. Then read Voss and the Vivisector. You can thank me later, mate, in your suicide note.

>>25075276>high fantasyLOTR>low fantasyConan the BarbarianThose are both high fantasy as they take place in secondary worlds. As literary terms, high and low just man if they taste place in a fictional setting or the world as we know it.

>>25090023As does LOTR, except both are so far removed from Earth, they are functionally secondary worlds and named as such.Worldbuilding a OC fantasy world and saying "Aktually this is planet Earth 85 million years ago" as easter egg trivia doesn't make it low fantasy.
