Let's be honest. Most books written nowadays should be burned.

It's the only place where I can get books in English in my country. Due retard tariffs, and the fact that my countryman are notorious scammers, the transport cost for a used book is about 20x it's price (i don't collect books, i just read them and then give them away, so buying used is not a big deal for me).

Retail is the easiest job on the planet.

You can disappear for hours no problem, you can work at your own pace/there is zero urgency, you don’t have to use your brain, you don’t have to actually learn anything or train, it requires no schooling, no one screams at you 24/7 like in food service, there’s no heavy lifting like in construction, you’re indoors, you don’t have to talk to people if you don’t want to.

Where else would you expect these types to work? Starbucks requires actual speed/effort, and the economy can only support so many NGOs.

Ah, the classic case of the liberal woman burning her conservative husband's money on a cutesy pipe dream. It must be nice living in a nice mansion and never having to worry about anything and taking a 2 week vacation with your "on the board of directors" husband every two to three months.

If you're not in NYC or London, isn't it kind of your only choice for brick&mortar? The indie bookstores around me are far worse in terms of they/them badges and tea leaf reading workshops.
>>
>>25075785
>go to book store
>it's run by antiwhites

>antiwhite propaganda is front-and-center
Antiwhites are like Indians, once they get into power, they only hire more of their own kind.
>>
>>25075916
There's a bookstore within walking distance from me too run by a nonbinary married couple (not joking), but it's closed on Sundays and after 5pm (I work a 9-5).
On a Saturday, during their 5 hour window of business, I thought I'd check it out so I walked over and they had a big sign up "closed for winter break. back in 2 weeks. " They've routinely had go-fund-mes to keep the store afloat.
Meanwhile there's a Mexican run convenience store near me and those guys open before 8am, close around 11pm, open on holidays and weekends, and it's always the same 3 guys working every time I go in.
ICE has the wrong idea. Keep hard working Mexicans, deport they/them booksellers.

Like it or not, that's the closest we have to young intellectuals these days. Someone on /co/ recently used the word "dinergoth" to describe them. It's the current counter culture, even if it's lame.
>>
>>25075796
Because it has free shipping. I would have bought something from Abe Books today but shipping would have been $14.
>>
>>25080292
>dinergoth
Holy cringe. Why are young normies like that? Even when I was a teen, I would never resort to any of those subcultures.
>>
>>25080336
Correction: I did resort to self-help, PUA and anime groups, but I didn't really identify myself as part of them, I didn't want to fit in because I think I couldn't fit in anyway
>>
>>25080292
What's a dinergoth?
>>
>>25080344

There's a definition on urbandictionary.

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=dinergoth

I don't think it's quite accurate, in that it's absolutely not the dominant youth archetype right now, but I do know the kind of person it describes. Although they've been around when I was a teen in the late 00's/early 10's too. They're not the dominant youth culture, but they're the dominant alternative to it.
>>
>>25077404
All of the easiest “jobs” I’ve ever had were in retail.
And it’s not even remotely, not even by a mile close.

You simply cannot compare moseying around a store with an AirPod in listening to your second audiobook of the shift looking for a stray pair of pants to fold (if the mood strikes you) with a cunt waitress that smells like Pall Mall’s screaming your ear off to hurry it up table 12 wants a rosé.

The only adverse occurrence you ever deal with is a Karen, and they’re all globohimo chains so if you just claim you have anxiety or ptsd from your abusive girlfriends dog or some other nonsense you can get out of talking to people too.
>>
>>25076973
>and never having to worry about anything
The irony is these types of women who have nothing to worry about are constantly worrying about everything. Their fake business, their imaginary illnesses, Trump's most recent tweet...
>>
>>25075800
I've always enjoyed basketball and after decades of having an awful home team we finally get things going only for the new owners and front office to do every obnoxious gayass thing they possibly can.
>Fire the cheerleaders because it's sexist and stuff (yet for some reason often have prepubescent girls from school doing it instead).
>Hire annoying woman announcer, so they can brag having the first woman announcer.
>Start "pride night" where they literally have a drag show at halftime with men dancing around in revealing women's clothes in front of a bunch of children and stuff.
Plus tons of other pandering events and stuff but really 90% even the players seem embarrassed, so they have to get sound bites and stuff from anyone they can
>>
>>25075796
You left out the other half. You aren't just giving him money. You are exchanging money for a service. And he provides the best service, at the best price. You do it because it is in your interest.

So they still have cheerleaders?
>>
>>25075785
That's not a bookshop specific thing, it's a retail thing.
>>
>>25075916
There was a bookshop like that in my city too. I'd go in, see if any books got my attention and order them off Amazon kek. Their shop went under in about 2 years.

Meanwhile there are some other niche bookshops around that survive and it's usually some anti-social guy in his 50s that runs it or some old but kind of fuckable older woman that runs in. Maybe I'm just really lucky in my city that I don't see the stuff that OP sees.
>>
>>25080292
> the closest we have to young intellectuals these days
Reading the novelisation of some shitty movie doesn't make someone an intellectual. The most advanced book to these kinds of people is HP Lovecraft.
>>
>>25082429
Not quite, where they used to have a professional women's dance and cheerleading team on staff, now they have some elderly dancers on staff (in case you wanted to see Grandma shaking her tits), and they often have schools and dance classes come in and do amateurs cheerleading or dancing or whatever they can to fill the time.

Basically you used to get hot professional women dancers/cheerleaders nightly, and now you get elderly dancers and children on occasion

>When did it get like this? Why do books appeal so much to this demographic?
Never seen one of those creatures out in the wild (only a couple 50 years old TIMs studying pediatrics in my uni), but when I went to the public library of a really big city here in Italy a couple weeks ago for the first time in a really long time and I actually saw a homeless retard reeking of piss.
I thought you faggots were making that shit up: whenever I was telling you that the public libraries were cozy spot where you can read and chill you anons were telling me about the bums, but I'm used to the countryside kind of public libraries so no bums here, so I didn't trust you.
Now I'm scared.
Will the trannies get all the 10/10 anorexic art hoes that work in retail. I'm thinking of getting a house in the big city, I don't wanna end up having to interract with those subhumans, librarians are the only people I talk to outside work.

The truth is that women read so many books that they even end up memeing the trashy ones. Haunting Adelaine and Morning Glory Milking Farm are basically the equivalent for Metamorphosis by ShindoL and Interspecies Reviewers.
Chuds are barely clinging onto what /lit/ was memeing before 2010 (McCarthy and GRRM), they can't even glaze some serious literature that came out in the last few years, something that wokies quite evidently do.
If the Tumblr-4chan war had happened right now, the 4channer would have been the one to cry about how edgy the Tumblrinas are.

Do you only go in the first 5ft of the store?
There are aisles and aisles of bookshelves full of fiction and history and poems and epics and mystery and classics and modern and completely avoidant of all things romantasy.

I don't disagree with you supporting a local bookstore over chapters/indigo, but don't make it seem like you can't pick up a copy of whatever "deep thinker" author you want to read from Chapters.
