The Fearful Void by Geoffrey Moorehouse is a riot of a book. Not sure if camels come out as the good guys in the end though.

Chingiz Atmatov’s 'The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years' heavily features a camel and, in general, Kazakh/Kyrgyz steppe camel culture.
