I'm on page 170 approximately and so far it has been a slog. Will it just be the political talk of a rich family for 700 pages? I'm guessing it will get good when Leto is betrayed and Paul becomes an active character, yet the book has been baiting me for the last 70 pages or so with Irulan's notes.
>>25086623itll never get good. genre fiction is like ramen noodles that you eat every day to stay existing except actually theres no purpose to it
>>25086631I'm reading it on parallel with heavier texts. The purpose of the book is to lighten the charge of the other books, yet it's not even entertaining. It feels as a chore. I might just drop it.
>>25086623>I'm guessing it will get good when Leto is betrayed and Paul becomes an active characterCorrect. The beginning is a bit boring but then it rapidly becomes unrelenting kino.
>>25086623It gets good at the dinner scene.
>>25086647heres whats in dune* dune is full of oil which is needed for logistics so even though its full of barely civilized arabs whoever controls dune controls the world* to be a state is to have nuclear weapons, even though theyre never used in wars* the dune guy has magic powers due to special breeding kind of like the bleach guy, additional magic powers come from combat drugs and transcendental wuxia meditation* religion is just a way of getting magic* knowledge workers have made ai illegal as a jobs program for knowledge workersbasically its midwit whaargarbl. watch star wars instead
>>25086678The dinner scene is literally the worst part.
the first half is better than the second. admit you got filtered and move on.
>>25087129>first half is better than the secondwhereas in star wars* dune is a shithole where political refugees hide and planes crash* magic comes from breeding and wuxia meditation* religion is disparagingly referred to as a way to procure magicbasically less tedious midwit whaargarbl
>>25087151im not disputing that, most sci-fi is just manlet-core anyway
>>25086623It's genre fiction. It never gets good. Learn your lesson, and next time drop a work if there is no literary merit in the first 10 pages (first 10 paragraphs really).
>>25086647Do you eat shit to intersperse with good meals? The light snack still needs to be of good taste to fulfill its purpose.
>>25087323I do eat ultra-processed slop cookies between mealsSince this was so well regarded, I thought it would be like LOTR but science fiction.
>>25086631This. Genre fiction is garbage.
>>25086784Fuck off Villeneuve.
>>25086647>The purpose of the book is to lighten the charge of the other booksThen you misunderstood it from the first.>it's not even entertainingIf you want high jinks, read Wodehouse.>I might just drop it.You should. It's clearly filtered you.
>>25086631>>25087880>>25087320Hi Lovecraft!
>>25088536>Then you misunderstood it from the first. The book is not that deep. >If you want high jinks, read Wodehouse. Or I could actually read entertaining science fiction, like K. Dick or Wells
The first three books are merely set up for the actual good book, God Emperor of Dune
