What actually happens after we die according to the bible/theologians? Is Heaven really a place where we will live eternally in happiness/is Hell really a place where we eternally suffer in flames?
>>25088947One interpretation is that we sleep until resurrection time. And the Kingdom of Heaven is a time rather than a place. It never gets any farther. Dante could only imagine eternal bowing/meditation. Infinite prostrate boredom. Hell on Earth/in heaven.
>>25088971All of the Dead shall rise, Righteous meet in the skies, going where no one dies, Heavenward bound.
Christ preaxtmore about hell than he did Heaven. When you're asked "Are you saved?" they're asking you if you're saved from God's righteous judgement of the wicked. Annihilationism isn't an exegetical reading of Scripture. That's hard for most modern Christians to accept.
>>25088988Preached more on hell than Heaven*
>>25088947Its not for eternity. Not once do they say its eternal. Your soul being saved means you don't suffer in hell
A person resides in either a place of comfort or a place of torment. These realms act as a temporary “heaven” and a temporary “hell” until the resurrection. At that point, the soul is reunited with the body, but no one’s eternal destiny will change. The first resurrection is for the “blessed and holy” (Revelation 20:6)—everyone who is in Christ—and those who are part of the first resurrection will enter the millennial kingdom and, ultimately, the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 21:1). The other resurrection happens after Christ’s millennial kingdom, and it involves a judgment on the wicked and unbelieving “according to what they had done” (Revelation 20:13). These, whose names are not in the book of life, will be sent to the lake of fire to experience the “second death” (Revelation 20:14–15). The new earth and the lake of fire—these two destinations are final and eternal. People go to one or the other, based entirely on whether they have trusted Jesus Christ for salvation (Matthew 25:46; John 3:36).
>>25089009So vague enough for the nihilist to believe in oblivion. Wow.
>>25088971>One interpretation is that we sleep until resurrection time/threadWe wait in death until Jesus returns and judges us.>>25088947>is Hell really a place where we eternally suffer in flames?Probably not but who knows. If anything hell is usually described as cold and God compares himself to fire a lot throughout the bible. It's possible hell is simply not joining God in heaven, estrangement and nothingness.
>>25089021>something, a place described souls go to, an actual thing, is actually nothingHell deniers are so insane. I know acknowledging its existence will make you reconsider sin and repentance but look at the things you're starting to say to keep your atheistic delusions up. The fact that people say "well Jesus was talking about a big bunch of nothing when he mentioned hell" or "oh the place that doomed souls go to? Yeah it's actually just nothingness" why would nothingness ever be called a specific place are you insane? Stop running from the truth
>>25089429Ok
The "rich man" attaches his sense of self to that identity. All he considers "himself" is destroyed except his spirit which stubbornly persists in that attitude on earth and refuses to join God in heaven. His entire life was spent burning and the spirit continues to burn with resentment and rage towards God for destroying everything he loved, his money, his physical body etc. You can't take any of that with you and a lot of burger fundie Christianity is now focused on inverting that exact point, to pretend you can take everything you're attached to in life to an afterlife that's like a physical place.Revelation is symbolic imagery. The idea that it's "literal" is not even coherent and nobody thought like that until after the printing press when retards ruined everything.
>>25088947According to Gregory Palamas; Soul continues after body dies with its remaining attachments and passions, whatever isn’t loosed on earth remains after death. Have an addiction or lust? The desire remains with no way to fulfill, this is hell. Purified your sins and achieved theosis? Your heavenly state and dispassion on earth will continue after death, this is heaven. You’ll be reunited with the body at resurrection
>>25089680He has quite the imagination doesn't he
>>25089756Well we’ll find out
>>25088947I'll ask my pastors at Hillsong church.
>>25089758Can you think of any holes in the logic of being reunited with your body?
>>25089805I wasn't critiquing Christianity, merely Greg's extrabiblical postulations, m'lady
