the book-on-cleavage-as-thread-opener is doing a lot of work but fine, i'll answer sincerely because the question deserves better than this thread is giving it. :^)
the canon: jean rhys, good morning midnight. a woman drinking by herself in paris hotels; the prose gets smaller every chapter like the room is closing. duras, the ravishing of lol stein. she stands outside the ballroom for the rest of her life watching something she can't enter. hardwick, sleepless nights. loneliness as syntax; the sentences won't stay next to each other. adler, speedboat. cusk, outline. she becomes the container for everyone else's story & there's nothing left inside. kraus, i love dick. loneliness building itself a house shaped exactly like obsession. lispector, the passion according to g.h. a woman & a cockroach & the complete dissolution of self. jelinek, the piano teacher. han kang, the vegetarian. moshfegh, my year of rest and relaxation.
(yes it's a different loneliness. surrounded by people & still unreachable. doesn't make it less real; makes it harder to name, which is why it needed its own literature.)
"women can have all the men they want." someone has never read a novel where having the man is the loneliest part.

I'm a homo, so I have no horse in the race that is gender wars. However, I am really confused as to why male loneliness is so controversial. Women pretty openly acknowledge how they have wider support networks and anyone with eyes can see how they spark up conversation with other women more readily.

For the other side, I think there are paternalistic attitudes towards women that are annoying when on the receiving end of them but can be very easily seen as highly desirable when you are in a black pit of isolation. Anybody that thinks easy sex is a fix for loneliness is fooling themselves though.

This anon might like it, since it's about an incredibly curvaceous MILF who's lonely and horny after her husband left her for his petite mistress. While pleasuring herself by the pool, she spots her neighbor spying on her and has the best orgasm of her life. She becomes obsessed with the thought of exposing herself and on an impulse decides to throw away all her clothes, becoming a nudist.

If anyone here decides to check it out, I'd love a critique.

>am really confused as to why male loneliness is so controversial
I think the bigger issue is that in spite of the MLE being almost universally recognised as a very real thing, it has been picked up as a talking point by political grifters on both sides of the coin. They create the controversy because it benefits them to do so.

My anger at the OP picrel is more-so because it’s a prime example of why the Loneliness Epidemic continues. There are countless amounts of lost and lonely men out there, yet, when they’ve finally been acknowledged as having a male-centric-problem that should be addressed, they’ve been met with derision, ire and been used idpol pawns. The book in the OP reeks of a wry smile that looks down on a male issue and seeks to co-opt it and diminish its seriousness. It seeks to insert itself into a male space whilst mocking the space that it is now in. The act of taking a photo of it next to an exposed cleavage is weaponised femininity. You could argue that there’s nothing inherently sexual about the image, but I think that would be naive. There’s also a litany of stereotyping in play, that I don’t have time to go into right now, but I may later if this thread is still up.

As a side note for context - I’m fortunate enough to have escaped that isolation a long time ago, and even then, my lowest moments were during a Pre-Social Media/Infancy of Internet era, so I probably had it far easier than the lonely men of today. It sucked back then so it must suck even more now, and I just find it all very saddening.

looked up the plot summary, almost certainly written by ai by just asking it to cram 5 of the most click bait topics into a book plot and then spam it out and target it at women.

"Set around a foster home in Kilburn and in the squares of Bloomsbury, where its protagonist Hannah sleeps, the novel grapples with how agency is given to the sexual lives of refugees, insisting that the erotic and intimate side of life is as much a part of someone's story as 'land and nations' are."

you are not going to find one anon, and if you do, it won't last, this isn't your fault, its the information culture we have, and you are not the only one who thinks relationships are going through inflation, and like i said, this won't change or get better because the culture will incentivize everyone to shift to technology to meet their sexual and relationship needs, this has been going on since vilar wrote her book in the 70s, which is why threads like these are so clueless, seeing someone complaining about romance in 2026 is so archaic

anon did you ever have sex and realize that you only waste your time with a big junk of humanity and your own time because you do everything for pussy. And women think their stupid shit they spew has merit because you pretend to listen only because you fucked and dont want to be too impolite by immediatly hitting the road. I wish we all were in a constant state of post-nut-clarity and then we all would see what a disgrace this all really is, this fucking coquetterie and dancing around with these stupid social little games could simply vanish. The women i respect the most are lesbians
and how come such a successful person like you comes here and spends his precious time to argue with a loser like me. Im sure you had to cancel so many important meetings social obligations you have going on in your life just to drop some sarcastic remarks on me

Probably My Year of Rest and Relaxation.
In the non-fiction department I know that the Carmelite nuns write a lot of books. I know about Inside the Cloistered Life by Sr. Marie of the Trinity and Cloistered by Catherine Coldstream, but I have read neither.
Also, it's tough to write a novel without social life, since humans are social creatures and those who don't have a social life are literally retarded. So all those books that show how cool and interesting are the hermits are bullshitting you.

There's not any specific line. If there's mutual interest, conversation tends to happen on its own. But to get it started just talk about something real in the moment, like where you are, what you're doing, or something you genuinely noticed about her. The goal isn't to impress her or force attraction, it's just to see whether you enjoy talking to each other.

You got a list for male loneliness as well that isn't the usual meme picks?
>>
>>25091638
>when they’ve finally been acknowledged as having a male-centric-problem that should be addressed
Because it hasn't been acknowledged, because it's not an actual fucking thing. How are you so dense to pick up that it's all a sham used by grifters and then turn around and eat it all up? Loneliness is not a new thing, and there are countless books and films and music about it, it's just that bitter, stupid, empty minded ugly men have decided to create a term to make themselves feel better about not having sex. The irony is that you're buying into this male loneliness epidemic while most likely trying to pretend women can't experience it because they can have sex easily. I know /lit/ is still a dumb board like any other, but I still expect better than some /tv/ tier posters here, and maybe that's my fault.

>trying to pretend women can't experience it
Your whole post is retarded, but this really takes the cake. Women are incapable of experiencing loneliness. FTM trannies commonly report that something that surprised them about living as a man is just how lonely the experience is.
When a woman is lonely, it's because she went a whooole day without any male attention. That's the depths of despair for a woman. Anyways, kys etc.

male loneliness has a different architecture than the list i gave. doesn't get smaller like the room in good morning midnight. gets emptier. same container, smaller person, & eventually you can hear him rattling. anyway, here's my list anon, hopefully it will meet the not the usual memes picks qualifier. <3
bove, my friends. 1924. a man in paris after the war trying to make a single friend & failing every time. prose so flat it becomes surgical. no self-pity, no irony, just a man buying someone coffee & watching them leave. possibly the loneliest novel ever written & almost nobody's read it.
hedayat, the blind owl. 1937. iranian. narrator talks to his shadow on the wall & the shadow is better company than anyone alive. male loneliness as the room shrinking until you **are** the room. read it once & it stays in your furniture.
di benedetto, zama. 1956. a colonial bureaucrat in 18th century asunción waiting for a transfer letter that will never come. heat so thick in the prose you can feel him decomposing inside his own patience. lucrecia martel made the film & it's equally ruinous.
abe, the woman in the dunes. trapped in a sand pit with a woman. they're together. he is completely alone. they dig sand side by side every night & shared labor doesn't fix a thing. being with someone & still being unreachable -- that's what this book invented.
pavese, the moon and the bonfires. returning to piedmont after the war. hills are the same & the man isn't. everything he left is still there & none of it recognizes him. pavese killed himself two years after writing it & you can feel the decision forming in every sentence, not as drama but as geology.
start with bove if you want to feel actually sick about it. (not a man but these don't ask.)
>>
>>25091928
I accept your concession, retard.
>>
>>25091944
Predictable. You are a sad and pathetic little man, but don't worry, nobody pities you, you don't deserve pity.
