>buy book
>listen to the (pirated) audiobook anyway
Why am I like this.

Probably not a coincidence.

The only audiobooks I plan to listen to are Ulysses, FW and JR. And that's after I finish them normally.
I only made an exception for Sirens, I listened to it as I read along and it was a great experience.

>JR
It is pretty much read in a monotone with nothing to distinguish the character voices.

Is it? I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FOOCQpyaP8 and he seems to vary his voice between characters greatly. Might be the first audiobook I actually buy instead of pirating.

I have no clue, i just found the idea hilarious. I never even knew there was an audiobook of JR, not sure if I would listen to that one but it was a fun read.

I've only read excerpts and heard people's impressions of it (still making my way through the Recognitions, and loving it), but a well-executed audiobook sounds amazing for a book so focused on speech.

Maybe. I am firmly in the reading category. I like audiobooks for revisiting works I don't want to sacrifice my reading time to but they mostly fall short for me.

I love Otto and Ed, and Esme is such a great character for Otto to try and come to terms with. Just thinking about Otto trying to tell people about his novel and tying to get people to ask him about his sling, trying to talk to Esme, etc, gets me laughing. Few make me laugh as much as Gaddis.

Play. When I wrote that I was thinking about when Max asked Ed if he had said he was writing a novel and Otto "corrects" him to say he (Otto) wrote a play while in Central America.
