Now that the dust has settled, are there any light novels that are /lit/ approved?
No. This shit is slop. I've read 25 light novels in japanese and they're devoid of food for thought or even good prose because the modern Japanese language is 25% broken english

Kino no Tabi.
>>25121890Ginga Eiyū Densetsu(Legend of the Galactic Heroes) is probably the only thing that would approach being worth reading. You need to understand that light novels are the equivalent of young adult(YA) novels. You're not going to get high quality writing from stuff aimed at teenagers.
honestly this has piqued my interest, im trying to get into books lately and i never considered to read monogatari because my anime arc was so long ago pre covid, and I never liked the anime much, maybe id like the novel a bit more if I couldnt witness the pedo baiting and fanservice baiting so blatantly, and focus on the character and thematic writing.

>>25121890How do you make a novel ``light``?
>>25123296By being a really bad writer to the point that no publisher wants you. It's very fortunate that the anime fans don't read enough to be able to discern bad writing from the good. Very.
Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere. Kawakami wrote one of the longest fantasy epics you've ever seen, loosely based on the 30 Years War and Japan's warring stated period, filled with mechs, bsex jokes and girls with huge breasts in stupidly tight body suits. Which might make him one of the most based people alive.
>>25121890There's the holy trinity, obviously. Haruhi Suzumiya, Oregairu and (in my opinion the most important of all) Toradora. Once you have read those there's really no point in coming back to literature ever again (unless to re-read them), as there's nothing new to be gained anymore.
>>25123296It's just YA slop for teenagers. Light Novel is just the name of the genre, like YA for us.
