What does /lit/ think about Stephen King?
>>
>>25122718
His writing turned to shit the moment he got a computer and stopped using a typewriter
>>
>>25122718
I think the same thing about his writing as I do about his claim of being 6'4".
>>
>>25122718
Ayuh, he's a fine example of Americana. Don't nobody else got the balls to say nigger several times a book for no good reason. Speaks to me and my chambray shirts, he does.
Ayuh, s'good author.

Hes been alive for far too long
>>
I'm not afraid to admit that I love the Dark Tower
>>
>>25122753
what was his first computer book?

He unironically could have had his place in the horror canon if he had just stuck to less than 12 novels and a handful of short story collections. Instead he decided to completely ruin any goodwill readers may have had for him in the future by writing endless slop.
Say what you will about his actual writing, but Misery, Salem's Lot, Pet Sematary, The Shining (obviously outshined by the Kubrick movie), The Stand, The Body (also outshined by the movie), IT, Carrie, his first few short story collections, and maybe the Dark Tower books (haven't read them) are the only important books King has ever written. If he had just kept it to those and a few others, he would probably be remembered well in history. But future generations (if they're still literate, that is) will be able to see through this slop for what it is. They will refer to Stephen King as a writer who has no creative intergrity, and he will be a laughing stock, comprable to a real life Garth Marenghi. Which is ironic, as his contemporary, Frank Herbert, who burned out far faster than King, was one of the main inspirations for Garth Marenghi.

Pre or post brain rearrangement?

It must be THE TOMMY KNOCKERS because that shit reads like it was written on a computer.

So when he stopped using cocaine

Got no bad feelings toward him. Don't like most of his books (love Dreamcatchers, though), but I recognize that he has a gift for writing really greasy people. Every time I've opened a book of his, there's a character that just makes me uncomfortable. Sometimes even the main character, that doesn't actually DO anything wrong, they just have that aura of someone morally gross. It's really impressive, and I have to respect him for that.

he does

I know being a contrarian is popular around here, but I unironically like most of his books. Didn't care for the night flier though, and I think the Stand was longer than it needed to be. But other than that, I think his writing is mostly solid. I enjoyed Insomnia very much when I read it as a teen.

I think he’s very good at his job.

I can tell from some of the pixels and from having read quite a lot of books written on a computer in my time.

Word processor diarrhea.

Writes by the pound
Can't publish anything without extensive editing because he has no real storytelling ability
Looks like the biggest pedo ever
>>
>>25122718
Now I've seen the slop on his shelves, his books make a lot more sense
>>
>>25126177
I like how his personal library of garbage is basically a cuckshed in a closet on his house
>>
>>25122718
glad to see he's an R. L. Stein fan
>>
>>25122718
I love this cantankerous old Democrat like none other, and I've only read a small handful of his books.
