>>25123414I'm sorry but Father Brown is some of Chesterton's worst work. The man liked detective stories, but he was mostly only good as an essayist. Christie mogs him easily.
>>25124704Chesterton himself admitted that Father Brown was a poorly written series.
>>25123414I hear you're a racist now, father?
>>25124624im not catholic i just like his prose
>>25124618You can't even spell nor pronunciate his name right.
>>25124708There are some good Father Brown stories. The Blue Cross is fine, and The Sign of the Broken Sword is excellent. Most of the good stories are concentrated in the first collection, Innocence of Father Brown. After that, they're mostly mediocre.
>reading father brown solve the mystery of the zany killer pneumatic butler>chesterton goes on a tangent about presbyterianism being a savage religion, anglican priests being murderers and why laymen shouldn't be allowed to read the bible
>>25123414Fr. Brown is kino. Poriot is zesty and contrived. Sherlock Holmes is for transhumanists.
>>25123414The Germanic countries LOVE pastoral crime series. There's a cop show for every single county in Germany, and about two dozen "priests solve a murder" shows on top of that. There's even an adaptation of Father Brown! Ottfried Fischer is a chill actor.
>>25125119Interesting, make me think of Midsummer Murders
>>25123414No. Tis the best.
>>25123414>Father Brown>Ballad of the White Horse>Heretics>The Man Who Was ThursdayI like how Chesterton has at least one absolute masterpiece in basically every genre of writing. Poetry, short stories, novels, essays, he wrote a lot, and while not all of it is great, he's got at least one legitimate gem in every single category.
>>25125772He was an incredible writer. Truly one of my favorites.
>>25125812Supposedly not a bad playwright, either, though I've never seen or read any of his plays.
