I do not feel any smarter, wiser, happier, or “better” by any metric despite all the reading I have done in my life. All the philosophy, from Heraclitus to the post-structuralists, all the classic novelists and poets, have only served to make me feel more confused and alienated.

Books for this feel?

Might want to work on the comprehension before looking for more to read.

There is of course the satisfying moment of revelation, the “aha”, the levity, that comes with reading your Walter Benjamin’s and Alberto Caiero’s and what have you, but none of it persists. How do you meaningfully internalize a love for nature in the miasma of modernity. In the multi-hour commutes through concrete hells, In the long lines at the pharmacy, in the nauseating work meetings. Point being, these ideals all reduce to dust in the face of being alive. Day after day.

But not the Book of Disquiet? If you have read The Book of Disquiet my original assertion regarding working on the comprehension is correct.

Thank you for making this thread. This is exactly what my inarticulate mind has been feeling. I can't seem to "live" out all of this.

I am totally opposite to you, every book deepens my understanding and the conciseness of my ideas. The people who stand beside me philosophically give me better words and structure to use, those on the opposite of my views still inform me with contrast, although I don't read what is exceptionally vague
