Why are all the best writers mentally ill?
Genuinely it seems like the more troubled the author is, the better their work is.

You wouldn't get it.
>>
Because contemporary society views honesty as a mental illness, especially honesty about ones self.

>You wouldn't get it.
I don't get it, that's exactly why I'm asking.

No one relates to antisocial personality disorder, everyone relates to having had moments of indecisiveness or neuroses or self-doubt or hypomania or just sorrow

Great wits are sure to madness near allied, and thin partitions do their bounds divide. Nigga.

The essence of insanity is to see a version of reality that conflicts with the version seen by normal, healthy people. A genius obviously sees a different reality than most people. Genius is therefore a subset of insanity, and brilliant minds are likely to be tinged with insanity.

"Mental illness" is code for connection to the spiritual realm.

A content person has nothing to say. He's fine with the way things are and causing any change would be against his best interests. The more troubled a person is, the clearer he can see the problems in the world around him and the more the injustice of it compels him to speak up.

My father who is a psychiatrist said that human intelligence exists on a bell curve. Those who are on the left end of the bell curve are considered retarded whereas those who are on the right side are considered geniuses. A person is mentally ill rather than normal if they deviate more than a certain threshold of standard deviations from the mean. We normally accept the idea of retardation being a type of mental illness because their cognitive functioning is low enough that they have difficulties participating in society. We give a pass to geniuses because their level of functioning gives them abilities beyond what normal people possess and this is both impressive to us and produces certain benefits to society in the form of progress/good art/etc. But if they are so many standard deviations ahead of normal people, it means that they themselves are abnormal, and this abnormality will manifest itself in other areas of their life other than ones that we are most impressed by. Therefore being a genius is inextricably linked to mental illness.
