Best translation for a midwit? Also what am I in for? a friend told me it would change my life
>>25128238>a friend told me it would change my lifeYou may feel an uncontrollable compulsion to worship idols, Mary, and church fathers.
Great book. Not sure about translation because I read it in my language but I confirm it's worth reading.

>>25128242how do Catholics reconcile this? honest question, especially regarding Mary
>>25128287They redefine what the word worship means. Simple as. Not even shitposting about that.
>>25128287sometimes I do not know if you people are trolling or just extremely uneducated about the most fundamental things everthey don't worship Mary, they worship God onlythey respect Mary and can ask her to pray for them to God (no, they don't pray to Mary, they ask her to pray for them), but they don't worship her
>>25128295Asking for mediation and intercession is directly against the teachings of Jesus, so I don't know why you are so uppity about being wrong. Is this what redefinition anon meant?
>>25128295They're trolling, it's so easy to start a funny discussion and shitpost by ragebaiting.
>you don't get it bro the hail Mary isn't a prayer I'm just begging someone (not Jesus) to talk to Jesus for me (even though the whole point is the Jesus is the redeemer of all)
>>25128238Protties would be flailing around in rivers of shit if it weren't for Augustine. Please take your drivel elsewhere.
>>25128238read the latin. its pretty simple latin honestly.
>Yeah kneeling and praying to an idol of a mortal woman definitely isn't worship. We call that veneration around here
>>25128308OP here, I do plan on that eventually but my Latin's not so great yet and I'm working through some simpler classical texts first. I peeked at the Latin and it would take me a very long time to get through even one chapter
i just read the penguin edition and it was fine. maybe someone disagrees but as the only version ive read it was an enjoyable and interesting book.i plan to read in italian next.as for what are you into its basically an autobiography in the form of an oration where he is talking to god. many amusing anecdotes where he criticizes the me who hang out around the colleges and laments his adolescent fixation on sex.towards the end it becomes more metaphysical.
You can't go wrong with Chadwick, just get the Oxford World Classics version. It's arguably one of the best books of all time, especially in latin (Chadwick footnotes are amazing).
>>25128238F. J. Sheed's. Frank Sheed's is a literal translation and is the best -- bar-none!(Literal is more simple to read when it's well-executed) The un-convuluted sentences combined with devotional language when addressing God (thee, thy, thou), makes the person of Augustine come to life for the reader. Hackett paperback also has wonderful notes and lists every scripture verse # to St. Augustine's copious quoting!

>>25128287There's nothing to reconcile. Catholics don't worship Mary or the Church Fathers. Protestants are just liars, as usual.
