>What is /phil/ Philosophy General?A general for readers, students, and armchair thinkers interested in philosophy, whether it be Western, Eastern, analytic, continental, ancient, contemporary. We discuss primary texts, secondary literature, online lectures, podcasts.>Why read philosophy?Politics, science, psychology, etc. all began with or were inspired by someone who thought philosophically. Basically, if you are interested in just about anything, philosophy will help you better understand that subject. Because it is at the foundation of every conceptual institution made or discovered by humans, it is in the underbelly of human experience, and so it is worth taking seriously.>Why study philosophy formally?Surprisingly versatile and undervalued. Phil majors consistently score among the highest on the LSAT, GRE, and GMAT. Strong pipeline into law, policy, ethics consulting, AI alignment, and academia.I posted this on /his/ but was advised to repost here due to low activity over there.
Why did nietzsche hardly talk against Hegel directly like the way he did against Plato and kant, despite Hegel being one of the most influential philosophers of his time?
>>25146787That's just the whole board You'd be better breaking it down into different categories:>metaphysics>ethicsEtc.That would be a good idea
>>25146819Nietzsche never seriously read Kant, let alone Hegel. If you actually go over his 'critiques' of Kant you'll realize they're utterly shallow and actually show a complete lack of understanding of what he argued for.
>>25146824well if theres such a high quantity of philosophy posts, maybe ideas that anons may not deem worthy of full threads can be posted and discussed here.
>>25146819>>25146838Nietzsche only knew Kant through what he read about him in Schopenhauer, and even that he didn't fully imbibe
>>25146787>Strong pipeline into law, policy, ethics consulting, AI alignment, and academia.I dont want any of that gay shit I just want to read and debate philosophy
>>25146850most people dont want to study philosophy formally just "because". I will admit that I do though and i think thats a good reason
>>25146787Not sure about this general, I already have >>>25143390 (Write Your Thoughts) for misc thoughts Not sure what sort of things I'd want to post in here personally on the activity thing, apparently /his/ and /lit/ are very similar in post amount (pic related is 4stats.io), so idk about that argument, but I'd say /lit/ is much more philosophy oriented than /his/ typically so this thread certainly fits better here
I was thinking about getting into post modern philosophy for a long time. Is it worth it? Any interesting post modern philosophers to read?
>>25146870It's not real "philosophy" so I'd avoid it.
>>25146861I wish there was a path to do so that isnt just essentially copying and translating past works. Very boring and contrived. Seems more and more that academia isnt for me
Bump
If I were a richfag I'd be a philosopher. But I have bills to pay, so code monkey it is. I just wish formal philosophy education was easier to obtain. Unfortunately it's the sort of thing that has to be done in a social setting where you can ask questions and have them answered. An actual university education is the best way to get that, it seems.
>>25148818im a poor fag whose running out of time and im rolling the dice on a philosophy degree. i dont care man yolo. might get into a pretty sick college, but ill know for sure in a month.
>>25146787At long last, a containment board for this shii. Kudos, Anon.
