>not one Redwall book in any library in my town
>everything in the YA and children's section is complete slop from the last 20 years, minus CS Lewis

What the fuck is wrong with librarians?

why is "mouse goes on adventure" such a comfy genre?

>What is wrong with librarians

Recency bias and ideological capture.
>>

Your average librarian is the shittiest of libshit women.
She got a Master's degree in "library science," a field that's been made irrelevant by the internet, so she could be paid as much as the average city bus driver, who got his job after 8 weeks of paid training, to tell homeless people to stop jerking off in the human anatomy and physiology section.
Nobody in their right mind signs up for that kind of work except the most deranged ideologues. On top of that, the reality of her circumstances wears on her psyche over the years, molding her into an increasingly spiteful mutant.
They didn't start that way, but nobody hates literature and humanity more than a librarian.

there's limited shelf space and libraries prioritize books that are popular or recent. however, more than likely it was shelved in a section you didn't look, because "YA" has a different meaning in 2026 and Redwall definitely wouldn't be shelved in the "children's" section, it'd be under something labeled Teen, Juvenile, or Youth

just put in a hold request via ILL like a normal person

Redwall pissed me off as a kid because none of the books were actually sequels. They were just random stories taking place in the same universe, often centuries apart.

I didn't know that. Never read them because because I hate rats.

rats are the bad guys thouhg
>>

That's only true of the later books

Why would libraries stock an old book that does nothing to help Johnny realize that he’s gay and probably a woman?
>>
>>25162739
Mathias is not in the book published after Redwall, it is not a continuation of his story. Please stop lying.

Agreed, I wasn't expecting to have the premise of a kids book to be a slave rebellion culminating in an epic battle.

Reading them in the chronological order is surprisingly enjoyable.

It's still a sequel of sorts, a generational sequel.
>>

The schools and government have been subverted by a conspiracy of rats, stoats, and pine martens so they don't want you to read about their many crimes and provocations against the good people of Palestine, oops I mean Redwall.

Why is a grown woman like you doing in the kid's section of the library, anon?

Activism/Feminine Surrogacy.
The long march through institutions/"The Longhouse".

I like how this thread is full of a bunch of conspiratorial victim nonsense when the likely answer is more a combination of "You were looking in the wrong section, and also it is perfectly normal for older books to take less prominence as new books are released"
Like I'm sorry anons, there doesn't need to be some evil villain to explain why the books you liked as a kid aren't the same books that kids today read. It's just time. You're just getting old
>>
I love my university library. Full of great literature as far as the eye can see. Every time I visited, the book I wished to borrow was in stock. Also, no need to renew your books - they get automatically renewed as long as nobody else rqeuests them: I have had some of my medical textbooks on loan for years.
However, today I had the displeasure of visiting my local government library here in the UK. One pathetic quarter shelf (maybe 20 books) of literary fiction with the rest of the library full of generic genre sloppa.
Luckily, the classic books selection was decent and I picked up Emma by Austen.

It would not at all surprise me to learn that kids today read more than my generation did. I mean booktok is a thing, and zoomers are apparently retreating from the internet.
>>
>>25165298
>also it is perfectly normal for older books to take less prominence as new books are released

But that's lunacy, given how bad new books are.
>>
>>25165444
Eh, not really.
The vast majority of all books are shit, that's not new. And let's be real, especially when it comes to YA stuff and the stuff kids like, they tend to not have great taste. When you're an adult, you start to be more discerning.
So it's perfectly normal to just let the new stuff be digested by the culture. It's how the gems are discovered, after all. There will be a thousand forgotten books, but in the midst of all that people will find the new ones to add to the canon of classics, the ones that endure.

r/libraries is a bunch of people that want to be social workers and are surprised at the burnout and get offended people think of librarians as the realtor fail job.

Sorry you just want librarians to be good little drones. Their job is to show children progressive viewpoints and help them be good people and that means modern diverse authors, not old dead white men.
>>
>>25165469
>r/libraries is a bunch of people that want to be social workers
It's worse than that. Teaching is the main job for ultra-risk averse people who are terrified of competition and seek the safety of the womb via staying in school forever. Not even the faggotry of third-rate community college teaching, but elementary school teaching.

However, librarian is even worse than that. Librarians are for people too afraid of teaching. They want to retreat entirely into the world of books. If you ever want to emasculate a male librarian (as if he's not already completely emasculated), simply point this out and watch him sputter. Of course he won't do anything because he's the epitome of a coward. It's not fun with a completely meek phenotype, but there are a lot of male feminist types who slowly realized what an utter nightmare choice they made and it will hit home like a Russian drone.

iirc Mattimeo is the book published after Redwall, and Matthias most certainly is in that book.
>>
>>25166446
It's an easy as fuck job. Who wouldn't want to chill in a comfy library all day while schlubs and goyim deal in the real world? Who wants to fix roofs or some shit instead?
>>
I wish I could get any book-related job without a degree, only Whites read books and I wouldn't have to suffer the fucking brown hordes. As it is I just have to die in a ditch because AI took my job while the browns are getting free rent, pocket money, and everything financed. Wish I was in the US or wherever else except fucking Europe.
>>
>>25159447
CS Lewis is still available in modern bookstores, for some reason.
>>
>>25167287
You are a goy. Deal in the real world.
>>
>>25165374
My gf’s little brother has some dragon books he’s read and he’s the prototypical ipad kid. Not saying it’s the norm but SOME kids are reading. I don’t think it will turn into a legitimate hobby, though.
>>
>>25167300
Sad but true. But there are no jobs for a White man in the real world anymore, so...
>>
>>25167295
>>CS Lewis is still available in modern bookstores, for some reason.
CS Lewis just barely meets the threshold for Gross Old White Male Authors who are well-known enough that a bookstore can't exclude them. You'll get just enough parents coming in asking for Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe that they can't say "oh no, we don't carry Christian supremacists, why not try this instead for your racist child." But at least the Modern Bookstore has excluded all white male authors born after 1970 who weren't already well-known by 2000 or so.
>>
>>25167328
Jesus christ you people are fucking pathetic. And you drag your miserable patheticness everywhere you fucking go. It's literally like tracking shit everywhere. I'd like to discuss literature, but instead I'm subjected to your sadboy delusions of how oppressed you are because white men can't get a job (plenty of white men out there thriving, but let's ignore that). Is there anywhere on this board where people can actually talk about the actual fucking subject matter of the boards, or have you faggots completely polluted everything?
>>
>>25167360
Damn, she looked just like the bitch who beat my grandma within an inch of her life.

>>

>>
>>25167409
You aren't entitled to a job faggot. The economy is based on consent and you don't get to force your labor on others.
>>
>>25167409
Why the fuck do I owe you a job you miserable fucking retard? Why the hell are you talking about it here? This is a board for fucking books, can't you read?
>>
>>25167426
>>25167452
Yet the browns somehow are entitled to not only fake jobs where they do nothing and get paid from tax money, but also free food, lodging, and a nice stipend if they decide not to pretend to work, curious.
>>
>>25167455
I literally don't care what reeing you're currently going on about. You could be one hundred percent correct about everything. I DON'T FUCKING CARE. GO TO /pol/ IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THAT SHIT. THIS IS A BOARD FOR BOOKS
>>
>>25167462
I mean, that's what Redwall is about.
>>
>>25167455
Considering you've been enslaving them for five hundred years, I think they might be a teeny weeny bit entitled to some rewards, don't you?
>>
>>25167473
Who have I been enslaving in Eastern Europe, what are you on about?
