What the fuck did I just read? If you can merge with sandtrout to become an immortal superhuman badass, why aren't there entire armies of people who do this? Why isn't Jessica sadder about both her children dying in the span of fifteen minutes? Why does everyone act like a cold alien instead of a human being?
>why aren't there entire armies of people who do this?Because Leto II is the Kwisatz Haderach with total control over every cell in his body.Paul could have done it but he pussied out. Read on to find out why.
>>25161001Also cant really do much as a worm outside of Arrakis. Letos power comes from his ability to ration spice
>>25160997Eh, in the previous book she had abandoned both her children on Arrakis for ten years to fuck Gurney on Caladan And she also rejoined the Bene Gesserit who were Paul’s greatest enemy. Her being a shitty mom is consistent.
>>25160997Never write with your wife
>>25161128QRD? Did his wife help him?
couldn't finish. one was plenty.
>>25163576It has it's merits. Herbert has such a cold and alien view of humanity that he writes about it in ways no one else can. That makes for hard reading even as it makes for original insight.
>>25161528read the book, retard
>>25160997>If you can merge with sandtrout to become an immortal superhuman badass, why aren't there entire armies of people who do this?Because Leto had inherited generations' worth of Bene Gesserit body training. This allowed him to attain symbiosis with the sandtrout. Anyone lacking this background would just have died.>Why isn't Jessica sadder about both her children dying in the span of fifteen minutes? She had already mourned Paul years before, and had become estranged from Alia.>Why does everyone act like a cold alien instead of a human being?Because they're more than human beings. Main characters in the Dune books represent new stages in evolution, and have largely mastered their human weaknesses.
>>25164758No.
>>25161001Better question is why none of the Atreides after Paul and Leto contemplated merging with the sand trout. You'd think it'd be mentioned at least once.
>>25165338God Emperor answers the question, but it's not worth slogging through t.b.h.
>>25165424What was it? I'd imagine nobody wanted to go through with such a horrible process plus the sand trout eventually died off but I don't remember it ever being explored.
>>25165494he took over the bene gesserit breeding program to create people invisible to prescience. using the atreides line as stock to breed in and out of. Wih him forcing the Golden Path to create the Scattering, seeding it with ability to not be seen, along with Ix creating No-Ships for the same purpose, we see it put to the test when the Fish Speakers come back after Face Dancers rebel this time. Ignore the fag Erasmus and Omnius shit that Brian and Kevin tried to pull.
>>25165494Basically he laments the life he could have had, and looks for solace in his ancestral memories.
>>25165559yeah but even without KH powers letting the sandtrout form a second skin on you gives you John Carter-tier super strength.
What really got me was that in one of the later books it was revealed that the degenerate Tleilaxu have actually secretly been pious space muslims for thousands of years. And they would have gotten away with it too, if one of them hadn't had a short conversation with a Bene Gesserit. That's all it fucking took, apparently. And in thousands of years, that never happened before. In thousands of years the Bene Gesserit never got curious about the Tleilaxu.I can handle your retarded chairdogs, I can cope with the eternal Duncan Idaho, I admit I am having some trouble with the Honored Matres controlling a society with their cunts, but this fucking bullshit takes the cake.
>>25166046To be fair, their religion didn't survive Leto II unscathed.
>>25165252Fuck off then.
>>25160997>why does everyone act like a cold alien instead of a human being?Everyone is high out of their minds.THat is the whole point of the book. The spice is cocain.
>>25166633No.
>>25166046The kikes apparently kept their religion hidden for millennia. Why not the Tleilaxu?
>>25168038As did the Bene Gesserit, according to Chapter House.
>>25160997has anyone read hunters of dune / sandworms of dune? i can't imagine they're good, but maybe there's something redeeming or interesting in them.
All the Leto sections are so confusing. Read like mental masturbation to me but I might have just been too midwitted to understand it.
>>25168038Oh yeah, the space jews. Forgot about them. Couldn't sell the Bene Gesserit out fast enough. But no, what really gets me is that all it took for the Tleilaxu secret to come out is one conversation with a random Gesserit. For that kind of secret to be kept for thousands of years, with no gesserit contact whatsoever? When those bitches love nothong more than meddling in peoples' business? I'm not buying it.The more the series goes on, the more of a hack Herbert becomes.
>>25168641I must add that i also object on purely aesthetic grounds. Bene Tleilax as degenerate amoral biotech specialists is a highly dope concept. Retconning them into another muslim group only pretending to be degenerate is just defacing your own work.
>>25167053We accept your concession.
>>25169601No.
>>25168673It appears Herbert got a bad case of religion during the late phase of his life, such that even the BG were retconned as a religious sect.
It's honestly one of the most boring books I've ever read. The world is cool and certain set pieces are too, but man I hate his prose. I hate the stillness of it all, maybe it's just like hat because it's about a bunch of tradcucks in the desert but it's such a fucking slog. The only parts that are genuinely good are when the Harkonnens are sitting around plotting because at least they have some fucking personality. Instead of fucking Jessic going HMMMM MY HEAD RAMBLINGS! And another character mumbling some retarded one liner that doesn't cut anywhere at all. Movies are kino though.
>>25171312His prose can be vivid and poetic, but there's something odd about it that I can't put my finger on. It feels almost like Herbert developed his style in a vacuum without much feedback and got really good at writing in this one quite alien style.
>>25170193Yes. Cope and seethe.
>>25171312You're a fucking bobblehead and nobody cares what you think.
