Is it morally permissible to steal a book from my alma mater’s library? They have a fantastic hardcover copy of Either/Or that I never got around to reading. It's out of print, so it would cost me $ 1,000+ to buy. I feel like I should just take it. It would be so easy, and no one would notice.
ok but what if someone wants the book later
>>25161108>should I commit theft of a good worth $1000?Can't that get you jail time in some places?
>>25161108https://www.abebooks.com/EitherOr-Part-Kierkegaards-Writings-3-ren/31948538746/bdOkay, it's like $200 USD, but still better than $1000

>>25161108>Is it morally permissible to steal a book from my alma mater’s libraryi dont think you can destroy the university with your petty act of theft. burning the library down would be unlikely to abolish the university either
>>25161108>can read the book anywhere, anytime for free>stealing not for knowledge, but to look at a large rectangle on a shelf or table for yearsOP i'm going to slice your slimy little toenails off
>>25161140https://www.amazon.com.au/Kierkegaards-Writings-V3-Either-Part1/dp/0691073155/I am not sure I can buy from AbeBooks because of where I'm located. This is the only place I have found it.
>>25161155Is there any way you can be more specific without doxxing yourself? I think Abebooks basically delivers everywhere Amazon does.
>>25161130I doubt it will be read. I used to go to the library to look at all the books they had (I still have a copy of Kenya Hara's Designing Design that is also out of print, which I neglected to return when I left university and haven't heard from them about since) and I was looked at like a freak. No one actually went to the library to access the books. It was almost exclusively used for studying.
>>25161159Just tried and it looks like I can but it's still close to $300 to ship to me
>>25161108Universities -- especially the American ones -- knowingly rape their students with tuition fees, under the guise of offering them "well-rounded education," which they routinely fail to deliver on. You'd be doing something immoral, I'd argue, by not stealing it.
>>25161175They have soft covers for much cheaper
>>25161108Morally yes because you aren't stealing from the author but from people who stole from him
offer to buy it from them, they probably won't know its true value
>>25161108book is shit and so is Don Giovanni, so dont bother stealing or reading this
