Can you challenge this philosophy in favor of suicide?
>>25161142No, I'm not going to help you along your way to enjoying the taste of bleachBut if you're smart, you will realize that always having a few toes dipped into the reality that you could kill yourself at any moment if you wanted to is something special
>>25161142His cosmology is hard to oppose. It's basically identical to Kastrup's. I don't think his pessimism is convincing though or his assertion that God underwent mitosis out of suicidal depression. I think those claims both require more evidence than he provided. Value is relative and I find that the pleasure of living outweighs the pain for me, so I continue to live.
If reality is infinite and life is finite then you're already mathematically nonexistent and your existence is just a psyop. Therefore killing yourself can't end it since suicide is obviously occuring within the psyop, all you are actually doing is giving the psyop even more attention, intense attention, which makes it stronger, ultimately, because suicide is the ultimate act of faith that your life is real and meaningful (even if negatively so)
>>25161153>I find that the pleasure of living outweighs the pain for me, so I continue to live.So if you suffered a bout of severe depression you would kill yourself?
>>25161187Death is the end of conscious experience.
>>25161219That's generally when people do. I would attempt to determine whether after the bout passed sufficient reason would exist for my remaining alive. I have already decided that if I am ever rendered quadriplegic, I would prefer to die
>>25161223How do you know?
>>25161153>His cosmology is hard to oppose. It's basically identical to Kastrup's.You mean to say completely and totally false, then.
>>25161268Because it just is, okay? Trust ze soience, opines the late Mainlander (only if that science is schizo crypto-thomist heat death """physics""").
>>25161142Suicidality occurs when the fear of continuing to exist overturns the fear of nonexistence. I don’t see it as subject to rational speculation at all, sensitivity to this turn varies between people.
>>25161268Neuroscience.
>>25161297>fear of nonexistenceHow can you fear something that doesn't exist? You're only fearing a mental image of nonexistence.
>>25161308Neuroscience is bullshit, fake science playing simon says with neural strobes, and even with that not withstanding, it still doesn't explain which forces are responsible for life arising from non-life.
>>25161142Only optimists commit suicide. Mainländer was an optimist who believed himself pessimist.
All of you annihilationists are sick, sick people.
>>25161313Even though I can conjure no mental image of nonexistence or describe what it is like, contemplating the end of my experience of life stirs a primordial fear in me. Just as there is no rational reason to fear death there is no rational way to justify bringing about death, short of overcoming a primordial fear.
>>25161323That primordial fear can be mitigated.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpersonal_theory_of_suicide#Acquired_capability
>>25161223What is experiencing consciousness? If nothing is, then consciousness isn't actually an experience.
