Is this the best edition of Montaigne? If its good enough for Shakespeare then surely its good enough for me
Montaigne's essays, already frequently quoting silver age philsophers like Seneca, who was quoting the Stoics, Eoicureans and Cicero, in a version Shakespeare read, translated by Florio and then edited by two other guys.Pretty amazing how far removed it is really.I'm sure it's fine, I read Dr Screech's version but didn't really care for Montaigne, so go with this one in case it was the translation that threw me off.

>>25162997I know, Shakespeare was such a retard, he didn't really read Montaigne.
>>25162997I can’t believe it, I think we’ve found someone better than Shakespeare on /lit/ of all places!
>>25162957screech or frame, personally I'd go frame because the edition's a bit cleaner/better>If its good enough for Shakespeare then surely its good enough for meyou're not Shakespeare
>>25162987Why not read Frame's? His Rabelais is also better than Screech
>>25162957Florio's translation is the best translation, yes, but that specific NYRB edition is not the best edition, being only a selection of the essays
>>25163020is there even a full translation still in print
It's the penguin version
