>dude, you should read "The Tower of the Elephant">hmm alright>seems like a pretty straightforward Conan story so far>oh that's weird>wait...what?>holy shit
>vagueposting on le shitchan
>>25163485I thought everyone here read Conan stories, even the litfic fags.
>>25163498im not really from here dood
>>25163481Yeah, it's bonkers, isn't it? Wait until you get to the stories where Conan existing in the Cthulhu Mythos universe becomes obvious.
>>25163498lol lmao even
>>25163485How the fuck have you not read the story when it comes to the OG Conan stories? I’ve read a few of them (Phoenix on the Sword, The Frost Giant’s Daughter, Tower of the Elephant, and Xuthal of the Dusk to be exact), and they’re exceptionally good for what they are as the pulp genre, but Tower of the Elephant has a unique quality that seems to give it another dimension of its own.Read it, it’s only like 20 pages long, and it will make sense on why it’s considered the quintessential Conan story.
It's a shame that Howard's stories are the most well known since they're some of his weakest works and are far exceeded by his horror stories, solomon kane, bran mak morn, etc
>>25164119I think they’re still excellent.
>>25164119I think its a matter of taste, I was personally very suprised with how much Kane spend in Africa but the stories where very good especially the one where he chases the bandit. The Conan stories are very good but are at times to obviously made for publication (and some of the lesser stories can be very formulaic) I found this most obvious in comparison to the Kull stories which are clearly less well crafted but also written less to formula.I think calling Conan Howard's weakest works is wrong since these also include some of his best. My personal favourite is The Black Stranger a Conan story but I also rate the previously mentioned Kane story very highly (I think its Red Shadows).
>>25163498Yeah, no. Lord of the Rings is the closest we get to genre-slop.
I didn’t really care for that one but I did like this little bit of barbarian theology in it.
>>25166778More plausibly, /lit/ doesn't read much. I expect visitors to an anime board to be lethargic and dissipated, more or less.>>25166931Good stuff.
>>25166931I would take a pamphlet for this religion.
>>25166931Why just your enemies? Why not everyone and the gods too?
>>25166995It’s just worldbuilding, christcuck. No need to get all worked up.
>>25166995Killing your enemies serves order. Killing indiscriminately serves chaos. Ironically, being a pacifist also serves chaos. A guy who renounces all violence is more similar to a serial killer than a normal guy willing to kill to defend his family and nation.
>>25166931Sounds really, really weak. Pagan religion was not like this really, human motives matter. German "barbarians" respected and revered Odin mostly for his intelligence and depth of character.
>>25166931Catholics BTFO lmao
