I'm done pretending to value ''prose'' or complex sociopolitical themes more than anything in the books that I read, as if I wanted to go beyond my own feelings or whatever. I'm looking for a good book that simply tells a story about a Coward. No matter where the story eventually goes it only has to be poignant and handled with intelligence and wisdom. Any recommendations in particular? It's difficult to find books that chase a specific feeling on your own.

It is a precarious life, one who tries to prolong a personal feeling with something that may or may not exist

The sorrows of young werther, confessions of a mask, forbidden colors, hobbit, stoner, tunnel

Kohler isn't a coward.

Suttree

OP I'm interested why you are looking for a cowardly character. Especially after taking such a stand in your entrance

Oh that was you? Hahaha. That's funny how you see a cowardly character as the first step away from what you've been spooked into reading.
Good luck in finding some of the good stuff out there, there's lots. Complex sociopolitical themes are for pussies

Carrot on a stick etc

Yeah I'd rather not be pretentious about what speaks to me for now

Was thinking of Bilbo as I was making this thread actually. Stoner is very well regarded for good reason. I always assumed that Werther was a juvenile novel from what I'd heard about it from other people, but I'll have to give it a go.
>>25163762
Because that's something that I struggle with a lot in my personal life.

Never heard of this one before at all. Thanks for the heads up

I still haven't warmed up to the way Cormac writes. Count me in as one of the filtered dweebs.

Definitely read Werther.
And if you are struggling with cowardice, a consistent meditation practice will do you well. It's difficult and can be dangerous to intellectualize yourself out of it.
read Mindfulness in Plain English if you are ever interested in taking legitimate steps to clear your mind of thoughts you don't feel really belong to you

Sorry I didn't order this sentence correctly. I meant that trying to intellectualize yourself out of cowardice can be dangerous

Learn what pretentious means.

I only care about prose and a good story
I don't care about ideas or themes

video games and anime

nta but he's right, OP does not know what pretentious means, at best a purely academic understanding but mostly likely just a vague sense of understanding built off of what he assumed people meant when he heard it used. Thoroughly filtered.

99.8% of the time people that call something pretentious they are being pretentious.

Best possible reply. We don't need this kind of kiddie bullshit here. Take it back to Steins Gate or whatever the fuck

that's a shame. he's genuinely one of the most irredeemable cowards i've ever read. it is a bit of a slog though i'll grant you that.
