I think reading aloud and reciting is a useful skill that most people don't bother with anymore. It improves elocution, memorisation, projection of the voice, putting the correct emphasis on words, helping you to become a more confident and articulate speaker in public and private.

There are far more lonely people too. Something like 45% of women 18-30 will be single and childless by 2030. It's far worse for men in the current year- especially when you take into account that the amount of close friends people have was going way down in the past few decades. So basically gen y and gen x are far more lonelier than previous generations- regardless of marriage stats. That's honestly much worse than high divorce rates.
