Do you think anti depression and anti anxiety medications numb a writer to the full scope of their emotions, rendering their work less honest and intense, and more stilted? Could Dostoyevsky have written Notes From the Underground if he was on Zoloft? Perhaps that’s why art is so shit nowadays, because all creatives are practically zombies
Like any drugs they affect different people differently. And besides, the really crazy writers are on drugs like lithium or depakote.
Without antidepressants, people often escaped from chronic depression through a profound and transformative experience, which is essential for an artist to produce good art. If they didn't have this experience, they simply killed themselves. Or became alcoholics and drank themselves to death. With the modern prescribing of SSRIs, people are zombified for decades. They are able to function - eat, shower, sleep, (can't have sex properly tho). There is no longer a need to change/ have a spiritual awakening to escape from depression. Not to shit on SSRIs - I support the prescription of SSRIs for a few months maximum - a person may go through a period of severe depression due to unfortunate life circumstances and SSRIs are needed to ensure they can continue to function. But I don't support their prescription long term.

>>25165220Its not the SSRIs that are to blame, its life in general. Life has become very predictable and dull. People just dont really have transformative experiences anymore.
>>25165220Not just writers but anything in general. It's absurd how doped American society is. If pills were outlawed tomorrow suicide would probably skyrocket x50.
didnt willian fucking faggot attributed him getting any work done to SSRIs?
