If you ever feel useless and like a waste of people's time, just remember that long form articles exist
Especially Thomas Meaney's body of work

Is there a worse form of literature?

Articles can be nice
I come from a different perspective than you though, I think
The literary tradition as a whole is such a nice thing in general, that I have a hard time taking myself seriously if I were to complain about a bad example of it, which there are a lot of, of course
But yes, there are much worse forms of literature. I tend to dislike things from the critical tradition (if you can't tell). There are also a lot of really bad essays because of how closely the author is tied to the actualness of the content

to elaborate, they make you feel like you're getting close to the end and then it turns out you're only a TENTH of the way in. so you scroll down, skimming over the rest, and notice there's only more bullshit that awaits you ahead, with a couple namedrops for every paragraph such as
>Côte-Rôtie-fuelled lunches
and a haughty, pretentious and self-important air given to even the most mundane and irrelevant topics and people

Some great works of nonfiction began life as longform articles. The New Yorker was the incubator of Hersey's Hiroshima, Carson's Silent Spring, Baldwin's The Fire Next Time, Capote's In Cold Blood. I could go on.
>>
No non-historical nonfiction wouldn't have been better if made into a long essay instead of a bloated book.
There are no modern nonfiction books not a hundred pages too long.

I don't get why essays are so popular, especially on Substack. They're the easiest thing to write in the world. The steps are just:
1) Have opinion
2) Explain opinion
That's it.

if yarvin had understood what he was writing in unqualified reservations and had written it all as a book like carlyles latter day pamphlets, he would have removed all his condemnations of modernism and calvinism. if william pierce had submitted the entire manuscript of the turner diaries to the magazine to run an chapter at a time, the magazine would of called him a faggot instead of printing it
