What might have happened to Holden Caulfield after The Catcher in the Rye?

twink death

School in NYC
Moves in with his mom in New Orleans
Puts on many pounds while reading medieval philosophy/theology
>>
He shot John Lennon.
>>

He grew up and realized his pain did not need to make him some kind of martyr. He then had a bunch of kids and played catch with them in the rye field instead.
My only issue with the story is Holden thinking he couldn't be happy so he never was.

Holden became a Judge

Why do they always draw him with shaggy hair? He has a crew cut.

Died in Korea

He became Ignatius

I read this shit in high school and literally all I remember about it is the meaning of the title, that it was boring as fuck, and that the MC was an insufferable, whiny jackass. It was like YA The Great Gatsby. Genuinely one of the worst books I ever had to suffer through. Wasn't The Awakening Terrible, but it was still fucking bad.

thanks for pleb opinion

He’s writing from a psych ward. You can connect the dots afterwards
>>
>>25168955
>the book is bad because I dislike what the protagonist says and does
Ook ook

Watch out fellas we got a big boy here, who reads big boy books.

i will buy this novel
>>
The kid was smart. I just hope he got over his bullshit and grew up.
>>
>>25168356
He grew up to be a chud and hate tranny's.

falling from a balcony on a building he scaled stalking a kpop

At no point of the book did Holden show traits of a chud. He actually showed compassionate behaviour towards people who were different, like that weirdo he had as a roommate. I think he'd probably be rather pro lgbt and all that shit.
>>
>>25170702
He'd probably be one of those "dirtbag left" peeps
>>
>>25168356
I think it's really important not to see Holden as some cool and brooding cartoon, but as some dissociated depression case who wandered off campus and doesn't know where he's going. He would never walk that briskly, no? He's not even that prickly, sure he's got some sad stuff to say about whatever he sees, but he's really fuckin sensitive in his clueless wandering, when he's on that train or bus with the older woman trying to both protect her and himself from his experience that her son is a bully

>>25170726
Oh Jesus fucking Christ who am I kidding the artist drew the cigarette backwards anyways. Yeah it's just bad, naive art.
>>
>>25168356
It's explicitly stated at the end of the novel that his parents shut him up in an asylum, probably because it was easier than connecting with him or helping him properly deal with Ollie's death.
>>
>>25170744
which means, given the time period... FORCIBLE LOBOTOMY
>>
>>25170726
He didn't have it as bad as your regular 4chan autist though. He had money, parents who cared and he was socially apt and smart. This guy had potential unlike your average retard
>>
>>25170751
Right but it's a natural dissociation case, isn't it? If I recall the guy watches a classmate walk out a third story window and goes truant because he realizes both that that could have been him and he doesn't really care the way he thought, so what am I doing here he asks? I can't blame him for this dissociation. He never even spit venom like your average 4chan user. He just needed an explanation.
>>
>>25170751
>parents who cared
This is precisely what he lacked though. They shuffled him off to boarding school as soon as they saw he was unbalanced by his brother's death, and when that wasn't enough to keep him out of the way they locked him up in the loony bin.
>>
>>25170883
Oh shit Holden's brother died? That's the same as me, damn. Classic shit. Haven't read in a long while
>>
>>25170055
>Watch out fellas we got a big boy here, who reads big boy books.
That critique wasn't of the target age demographic of the book. Just cause I brought up YA doesn't mean I was shitting on the book for being YA. I was shitting on it for being like the Great Gatsby, ie shit because the focus characters are insufferable and whiny. Learn2read.

>>25170036
The book was bad because it was boring. I don't even remember what the fucking main character said or did because I wasn't fucking invested in him because he was an insufferable jackass which made me not care about him which contributed to the book being boring.

Dumbass.

retrofitted to fit the more contemporary emotional loser boy
