He has never repudiated his belief that liberalism is the most optimal form of human political development and is basically as far as we can go with civilization (unless transhumanism pushes us into new territory). He has never said that there will be no more war or conflict, nor did he say that the entire world will become peacefully liberal. Rather he is a liberal who desires liberalism for the world and is conceding that the world is more resistant to liberalism than he previously thought. This doesn't mean anything he said about liberal democracy is obsolete. It's still his desired system, just admittedly more fragile than he thought it was.
