I know it inspired Berserk which functioned as a sort of sequel with Martin renamed Gambino but I mean books books, not comic books

What an excellent suggestion, sir! It's truly a superb piece.

Unfortunately, I'm looking for something more myself. The closest, and not particularly satisfying, is Sapkowski's The Hussite Trilogy. Chaotic and ultimately pointless, but the atmosphere is somehow close to Flesh + Blood.
