I met a djinn while I was doing a ritual and she told me God had not mother or wife and that I should read the Quran and find a muslim man. I said my shahada because I was scared but I have been putting off her advice for like a year and a half so I have decided to actually give the Quran a chance.
This is one of the funniest things I've ever seenBeing commanded by a supernatural creature and worried about the language quality
>>25171593Well her face kept transforming into something snakelike so I thought she was demonic.
>>25171602Yeah no doubt for sure
>>25171588Unironically one of the books that you must read in its original language.
>>25171588Oldest version of the Quran was burned so we don't really have the oldest translations, i'd look up God Logic and see which Quran translation he uses

>>25171588The chart above has some good recommendations, but I would also insist on some other books I highly recommend The Meadows of the Righteous Book by Yahya Bin Sharaf Al-Nawaw as hadith collection due to its focus on day-to-day life and I also like to recommend the sealed nectarby Safiur Rahman Mubarakpuri which is a biography of the prophet, although it does possess some weak Hadiths it is overall a very good introduction. I would also recommend you get some books on Creed that are many but from the top of my head, I would say start with al aqidah al wasitiyyah by ibn taymiyyahAnd by The Book of the Unity of God by Muhammad Ibn Abdul-WahhaabAlso, if the study Quran isn’t enough, I would recommend you pick up Tafsir ibn Kathirdue to it, elaborating more on certain topics and the deeper meaning in some words and I do believe this to be the most important advice, you must learn Arabic it is necessary for prayer and recitation which is the core of any aspiring Muslim Finally, I do hope this post is genuine and you have committed to the shahada and genuinely meant those words I hope you find peace and refuge with allah and pray, he forgives, but the grievous sin of witchcraft is a great sin after all, but one that may still be forgiven.
>>25171588If you're getting into Islam, I highly suggest you don't solely take Sunni interpretations to heart and check multiple sources instead, such as the Jaafari school or others. Sunnis have changed many teachings and made up hadith for political reasons, so use your logic to decide what's reasonable. But of course, the Quran is the best source. However, this is assuming you're interested in Islam in a broader sense than just reading the Book.As for translation, I don't know good ones, but I do recommend learning Arabic. Quranic Arabic can be pretty challenging, but you can get there. The main difficulty with the Quran is the archaic vocabulary. Otherwise, it's very clear and concise, expressing each sentence as efficiently and elegantly as possible.Good luck, bro. What matters most in Islam isn't any particular teaching or practice, but the genuine belief in God. That's all you really need to start.
>>25171785This like I compared all 80 translations on IslamAwakened and only 17 translated majnoon in 68:2 as possessed (it literally means jinn struck) while the rest translated it as crazy / insane / mad and then of those 17 they failed to capture the nuance elsewhere like in 3:42 the hawariyyun technically means disciples but in use actually refers to the apostles of Jesus only. The only two that weren't terrible after running through the filter were The Study Quran by Nasr and Arthur Droge's non-Muslim translation from 2017, and the issue with those is that even conveying meaning accurately they did so at the expense of losing the original rhythm

Buy the oxford worlds classics The Qur'an Haleem, M A S Abdel. Buying a literary translation is only going to confuse you and you'll not complete it. The first goal is to complete it. Not many people understand all of the old testament or complete it so completing the Qur'an will give you confidence. Don't worry about sects you'll use your own intellect and morals to figure it out. If you don't understand Islamic law I recommend looking at the 613 Judaic commandments they intersect quite cleanly and show that Judaic and Islamic law are the same derived from the torah.
Salaam anon, if you’re serious then a lot of these replies are just gonna confuse you a ton. I reverted a bit over a year ago just by listening to it on YouTube (it can be argued the Quran is more an oral tradition than a literary one so you’re not losing out on much by doing so) https://youtu.be/YTDKeMJHNk4?si=pXO6B2u6MpOF2VPaThat’s what I started off with and what I regularly play in my car and recommend to people. The Yusuf Ali is pretty widely seen as one of the best English translations for some time now as well if you’re looking into getting a physical copy, my local mosque gives out a translation called “the clear Quran” which may be a bit dumbed down compared to others but a lot of people like the plain English. It also comes with decent tafsir commentary. For learning about the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) I recommend the seerah by Martin Lings, which can be found free on YouTube. If you want more details, Dr. Yasir Qadhi has a hundred something part playlist telling the story of his life part by part. He also is pretty good at stopping at parts where things may not be agreed upon or where things are criticized by secularists/christians. Dr Ali Ataie has great resources on confirming the authenticity and preservation of the Quran and he’s good at debunking any doubts that non believers may throw at youSheikh Hamza Yusuf, Sheikh Abdul Hakim Murad, Sheikh Yahya Rhodus, & Sheikh Ibrahim osi efa have great resources on spirituality and kinda getting you into an authentic Muslim vibe.Misquoting Muhammad by Dr Jonathan A.C brown is a fantastic history on the 4 madhab tradition and is sort of a history of Islam. That book will also address many of Islam’s criticisms and does a pretty good job at reconciling them. I should note that Im Sunni and although I don’t have any ill feelings towards Shias in general, most of the sources i provided come with a general Sunni leaning, but misquoting Muhammad includes some information about the Shia tradition & the point of divergence & stuff.Sincerely hope you take a read, best decision I ever made. Also don’t be scared to just go to your local mosque & explain your situation to somebody, the mosque is often a convert’s best resource.
>>25171819Seconding this, other translations have zero regard for rhythm which is so important to the quality. Arberry's line breaks are even structured to where pauses occur or are optional as per liturgical reading
